Why I will always vote D — as a POC

I like some of the policy proposals different GOP members have come up with. Even as a collective I think they do good work at steering an even keel. But when it came down to it, not a single Republican voted to impeach Trump (the first time!) on abuse of power.

That was when I learned - yes, I'm sure I could get along with one as a neighbor but when it came time to stand up for what was right for the country and its leadership - they were sheep.

I live in a Bethesda neighborhood full of Democrats. Not one black family in this neighborhood. When I lived in Baltimore, same thing. These liberal progressive democrats are fine as long as they do t have to live with a black family. Lol.

There are plenty of reasons for POC, like White people, to vote Dem on policy:

- Republicans want the government to force women to give birth to unwanted babies. Democrats want that choice to be made by a woman and her doctor. Forcing women to bear children they don't want or don't have the means to care for perpetuates a cycle of poverty. At the same time, they object to comprehensive sex education and want to limit access to birth control, which could prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place.

- Republicans want to maintain or expand the use of fossil fuels and to deregulate environmental contaminants. The effects of this policy choice, in both the short and long run (i.e., through climate change) disproportionately affect communities of color.

- Republicans want to adopt/maintain regressive tax policy that permits the wealthiest among us and corporations to avoid paying their fair share toward a society that works for all. They are also opposed to allocating resources sufficient to enforce existing law (which already favors the rich!) and forcing these people to stop cheating.

- Republicans are against police accountability (civilian regulatory oversight and doing away with the doctrine of qualified immunity, e.g.).

- Republicans prefer to support health insurance company profits over ensuring Americans access to health care, e.g. through permitting thr government to negotiate drug prices.

I could go on. It has nothing to do with identity politics. There's not a single republican party policy I support.

Okay, prove me wrong. Cite examples of Republican politician support for abortion, comprehensive sex ed, dissemination of birth control, green energy, environmental regulation, tax enforcement and tax policy ensuring that rich people pay as much as a % as the UMC, police accountability, and universal access to health care at non-bankrupting prices.

Maybe indoctrinated isn’t the right word. What I meant was “told over and over again that POCs are *not* inferior to them, until it finally penetrates their thick skulls”

It feels, to me at least, that Republicans are outward with their prejudices. The liberal democrat style racism is more insidious. It’s comprises gentrifying out people from the inner city and driving up real estate prices for Black residents, then these newcomers fill up their yard with “hate has no home here”, and changing their Facebook profiles to a black background, all while not sending their kids to the local school and hoarding those types of resources. Then posting on here with topics like “how can I stay in Capitol Hill past 5th grade???!!! There are no high schools!!! I need to move to Arlington!!!!” Their’s is a more subtle and complex style of racism.

Then again I also think many DEI initiatives these days are half baked and amount to just a system of quotas, which then breeds its own sort of resentment. Whether it’s banning ap classes, and punishing advanced students, to achieve a perfect mix of diversity, or the mayor of Chicago not talking to white journalists or the new art director lady kicking out all the white docents, or saying math is racist and showing your answer is racist and we need to retool math to focus less on the “right answer”.

Sounds like OP has been indoctrinated. Dems have had the AA vote for 60 years and what have they done for them? The AA community is arguably no better off in that period of time, and in many aspects, worse off.

Let’s poll African Americans and see if they’d like to return to pre-1960s legislation. Maybe they don’t want schools integrated or voting rights or the right to marry whoever they want.

So as a POC, you are okay voting for Gov Northam in blackface and Joe Biden and the outright racist things on record he has said for DECADES? You are okay that there was an esteemed leading D member of the senate was a former KKK leader? You really need to do some homework on the politicians and not just fall for the stereotype D = good and R = racist.

Northam hasn’t been on the ballot since the black face was revealed. Biden and Trump have both made racist comments, but Biden has a diverse cabinet, while Trump has actually been found guilty of civil rights violations as a landlord, did not appoint a diverse cabinet, and actively courts the white supremacist vote.
