My husband does call them to chat, at least biweekly. They call him maybe once a year. I think we are probably beating a dead horse here.

If your husband calls his parents bi-weekly with three kids...that's odd to me. Personally, I would be too busy with family and work. Now, that's not to say they shouldn't keep in touch. But, you're saying the husband is calling them and they are not calling him. That's odd. If his parents are only calling him 1-2 a YEAR....that's strange. It's clear the relationship is not balanced.
