has your dd ever had to miss school because of her period?

I would get so nauseous I would vomit and have diarrhea at school. Eventually we went to the GYN and they put me on birth control and it resolved. It had to do with my retroverted uterus.

Get her evaluated by a GYN, but don't assume that BCP will solve everything for every teen. My daughter had pretty bad cramps but birth control pills caused her extreme nausea and vomiting so the cramps were preferable.

We used to have a few girls come in to the main office every few months because their cramps were unbearable. They weren't trying to get out of class. They would sit in the office in tears with a heating pad until their parents came to pick them up.

I didn’t miss school because I was made to believe this is how it was. I had horrible cramps, diarrhea and headaches. That lasted until I went to college and got on birthday control for other reasons, but the cramps went away.

Looking back, my mom tried her best but she took me to our regular doctor who said the cramps were normal. I should have gone on BC to help because it was debilitating and there was a solution. That would have helped so much. The severe cramps started around 16 even though I got my period around 12.

No

However, some women skip the inactive pills in their monthly pack and are able to skip their periods.

There are also specific no period birth control pills like Lybrel.

Just to clarify, I know how the pill generally works and I know it can ease cramps but I was curious if your kid went on BC to ease symptoms did they (or did they consider) skipping the inactive pills.

No just got period monthly on BCP but the cramping was gone.

We use Period Tracker (the app with the pink flower logo)

I skipped school once or twice due to cramps but this wasn’t at all common. I had two friends who very regularly had to miss school due to excruciating cramps and nausea. They would spend days in bed curled up in pain. I believe both went on birth control and this helped bit you should definitely consult with an ob regarding your daughter.

Op, I had very bad first-days with my periods. Throwing up. Bad cramps. I would miss out on things I had really looked forward to. Your DD could, honestly, have it this bad.

What helped some - 3 Advil. Yes, 3.

I'm a PP whose DD is on BCP. The first BCPs she took made her feel so bad she had to miss school. She tried it for 3 months and then switched to a different BCP that work really well for her. There are a lot of choices and I would encourage people not to give up if the first time around. I, myself, have had no issues with any kind of BCP.

GYN for teens. My DD had horrible symptoms like this. Was put on BC pills and her life now is so much better.

Odd reaction from the pediatrician. Ours sent my kiddo to a Gynecologist for further evaluation.

I was this kid. Absolutely Aleve in advance if it starting; that was the only way I could avoid repeated vomiting on the first day. When I had a c-section, the surgeon noted extensive endometriosis. My IUD has been literally life changing; way more than birth control ever was (though it did help).

You might want to check into birth control or at least your DD starting to take Advil in advance of the pain which helped me alot. Basically I would start taking Advil on a regular schedule at the first sign of pain and through the first two days, rather than waiting until it was so bad.

+1 to all of this. I used to have to the above, taking prescription amounts of Advil, even when I was on birth control pills to manage this. Exercise did nothing to help me with this -- in high school, I was involved in sports; later, I biked or worked out 6 days a week.

Sadly, perimenopause and having a kid in my late 30s was what helped. I wish that I would have pursued it further. I thought that it was normal but looking back I should not have accepted that.

Your DD may have endometriosis. Take her to GYN and confirm. Those cramps are extremely painful and debilitating. Not unusual to not be able to go to school/out with that condition.

OP for god's sake stop posting on social media medical questions.

Why the H is your 16 year old not seeing a gyn?

Make an appointment now and stop getting medical advice from rando's on the internet.
