1. TC is no longer the name of any high school

2. There has not been a shooting at ACHS or any other ACPS school

3. At this point it is unverified whether the shooter or victim were ACHS students

4. The shooting is of course a serious concern and people need to feel safe going to Bradlee shopping center

Incorrect.

1. I graduated from TC Williams. I did not graduate from ACHS. I will never refer to my Alma Mater as anything other than TC.
2. Fight started at TC and spilled to Bradlee
3. I will donate $1000 to the DNC if the shooter and victim turn out to NOT be ACHS students if you agree to donate $1000 to the NRA if they turn out to be ACHS students. Agree?
4. Agreed.

I have no interest in a bet with you especially since I have no interest in donations to the DNC or NRA. It is interesting you picked those two organizations and you identified with the NRA. You may be very well right the victim or the shooter was an ACHS student. We just don’t know for sure yet. Also, I am not sure if it is verified that the incident at Bradlee was a direct spill over from school. The reason I am suggesting caution is that I know that a shooting at the NY Avenue / NOMA Metro in DC in the past two years was a result of a convergence of high school students from different high schools.

On the name issue, I think it speaks for itself that you insist on continuing to refer to the name of a segregationist. My college alma mater is named after a confederate and I would very happy if the name changed.

If the name bothered you so much why did you attend?

That is a fair question. While I had qualms about it at the time (for example I never wore a tee shirt we given with a picture of that confederate on it) I do not think I appreciated at the time the scope of the problem of the lost cause myth that was perpetuated through the honoring confederate throughout the south (and thus chose to attend because it is strong academically etc.). My perspective has changed over the past few years just like changing perspectives led to the name change of the public high school here in Alexandria.

Well, now that you are better enlightened I presume you have returned the diploma, no?

I mean, that's the right thing to do.

The 14 yo was shot a block from the school right after school let out. There’s no indication it’s not connected to the school.

I had not seen a reference to the age of the victim. If the victim was 14, then the victim would most likely attend Minnie Howard if an ACPS student which is a bit closer to Bradlee then ACHS’s main building. But, it then creates a lot more questions - were these all Minnie Howard students, a combination of main building and ACHS students / or also some non ACPS students?

The idea that these were not ACHS students (or MH, which is still considered part of the HS) is laughable.

It is so much better to just make assumptions without verification. It is not worth discussing this here anymore.

My high school in the 90s had one on one fights but a brawl like this would have led to expulsion and arrest. You rich people in Alexandria have a shocking tolerance for exposing your children to violence.

GMAB.The group absolutely was ACPS students. Everyone already knows this. Do EHS kids and SSSAS kids go to Bradlee after school, sure, but not in the sheer numbers of ACHS students. And if you have ever been to Bradlee in between 3-4pm on a school day you would know this.

If you have ever been at the Bermuda Triangle of Quaker/King/Braddock at 3:30pm on a school day, you see the ACHS students pouring out onto King and walking to Bradlee. There are a lot of kids. You don't see as many coming from Minnie Howard, they would come from Braddock and walk in from the back by the barber shop, not down King in front of Safeway.

When police responded yesterday, it was reported by ACPD that there were 3 dozen kids at McDonalds still; 36 kids.

The student shot was a 14 year ACPS student. Not sure if he is in 9th or 10th grade, but Minnie Howard students often have classes up at ACHS and go back and forth.

There has not been anything reported about the shooter other than the shooter fled and hasn't been arrested yet.

Who’s to say someone (or some people) won’t be expelled or arrested?! It just happened yesterday and police are actively investigating.

+1 I don't know if it's so they feel better about sending their kids to ACPS or what. But this is absolutely not normal or acceptable. If we ever decide to use public schools instead of homeschooling, we're definitely going to move out of Alexandria City. I don't remember ever seeing any fights at my high school. I understand a few one on one fights like you had at your school, but the situation at ACHS and GW is absolutely out of control.

Principal Balas confirms that the teen shot was an ACHS student.

Bradlee Center is the de facto hang out for ACHS students. Yes, there are also students from Episcopal, Minnie Howard, SSSAS, and BI as well there is no other place for students to go aside from the little shopping center with the CVS on Quaker. The bulk of the students hanging out at the McDonald's are coming from ACHS. I would be curious to know if this shooting is related to spillover from fights that originated from inside the school. I hope APD and ACPS will provide further updates.
