While I had qualms about it at the time (for example I never wore a tee shirt we given with a picture of that confederate on it) I do not think I appreciated at the time the scope of the problem of the lost cause myth that was perpetuated through the honoring confederate throughout the south (and thus chose to attend because it is strong academically etc.).
