Butteremails!

Remember when you cared about national security?

Dude...they never cared about national security.

+1

They’re nihilists. Partisan nihilists. They think this is all one big joke.

Because Garland doesn't have the stones to charge him.

Garland isn’t responsible for charging Trump. That’s within the purview of the grand juries conducting the ongoing investigations. Garland’s responsibility is to put as much distance between himself and the grand jury as possible in order to blunt accusations of political motivation. The more career prosecutors working the cases the better.

You don't seem understand how grand juries work.

DP. PP explained it inartfully, but they have the gist of it correct. Garland will keep his distance for good policy reasons, and career DOJ will make the decisions on what, if anything, to take to a grand jury.

Grand Juries will indict whoever they're asked to and no career DOJ attorney is pushing to indict a former president without approval from above

This. Utter fiction that the prosecutors involved are operating independently on this. POTUS will keep his distance from the AG, the AG calls the shots at Justice. And in this case, I’m really not sure what he’s doing.

There is zero chance that the decision to seek an indictment is going to be made at the AUSA (i.e. career prosecutor) level. It will be approved by Garland himself. He personally approved the search warrant, which was far less consequential than an indictment would be.

That’s what the investigation is for. Have all of the classified documents that Trump and his people mishandled been accounted for yet? Where are they and who’s had access to them? National security is a priority for some of us.

You have t been paying attention.

Agreed. The only problem is that now Trump is a candidate, he will be able to accuse Biden of leaning on Garland even more so than before, and create and entire campaign of victim-hood around it. So Garland will be even more careful and cautious. Which means we might ever see an indictment!

Grr.

Sounds like the polar opposite of the Trump/Barr relationship.

Sure, he may give an official stamp of approval, but he most likely will follow the recommendation of the career prosecutors specifically to avoid the appearance of political motivation.

My clients will be disappointed to hear that I learned nothing as an AUSA.

After Mueller got spiked, I guess I don’t have the heart to believe this is going to go somewhere (and yes I have been too lazy to click over since I saw this five minutes ago; maybe they address it).

Someone should start a new thread based on the Special Counsel decision. This one is getting long anyway.

I do love that he’s currently a man ICC prosecutor at The Hague. Suitable pick.
