This is absolutely a leak from the Trump team to try to smooth the way for Trump’s announcement. None of this is a defense to most of the potential charges.

That’s what the investigation is for. Have all of the classified documents that Trump and his people mishandled been accounted for yet? Where are they and who’s had access to them? National security is a priority for some of us.

DP. PP explained it inartfully, but they have the gist of it correct. Garland will keep his distance for good policy reasons, and career DOJ will make the decisions on what, if anything, to take to a grand jury.
