I would bet that, across the country, dozens to hundreds of women have died because of this and thousands have probably had their health and fertility permanently damaged. But the bulk of those women are probably minorities, probably mostly poorer, and as we know with missing blonde girls, only certain victims make the front pages. The families of women killed by these murderous forced birther policies have probably been approached to go public, but the threat of violence by right wing crazies remains a deterrent. But if the wrong woman dies and attracts attention - a Salvita Halapannavar or a(nother) Gerri Santoro - the GOP will finally go down in flames for good. |
Let's hope it doesn't come to this. |
South Dakota anti-abortion groups are calling the voters that signed a petition to put abortion on the ballot, misrepresenting themselves as employees of the Secretary of State, and pressuring them to withdraw their name from the petition.

And this will be crickets on the cables show. |
I fear you are correct. It’s just incredible that it has come to this. |
Statistically, I can just about goddang-guarantee that it’s happened. Think of all the stories you’ve read of women bleeding out in hospital parking lots or in hospital rooms as doctors wait for their sepsis to be advanced enough that the woman will die. There are dozens to hundreds of women who have already died and their families have understandably chosen privacy over publicizing the misery that forced birther politics have spread. |
🎶Women aren’t people (in the GOP, which effectively owns the media).🎶 |
Dang... |
Exactly, but the media thinks it’s more important that you know that Biden is three years older than Trump. |
There is some wacky fringe belief among the Catholics, gaining traction among the insane right wing (although who can tell the difference anymore), that birth control makes the uterus hostile to an implanting embryo and is therefore an abortifacient. They have never actually cited any proof of this, but who needs proof of things that are provable when you have “faith.” |
It’s all there for us to see. The republicans want to ban birth control. It’s part of their party platform and we will see more and more them supporting a ban on weird grounds and setting the terms of the debate. Like here. We don’t need to debate the logic of this assertion. We need to keep our eyes on the ball and not countenance a ban for any reason. Because there is no reason whatsoever to ban birth control. |
