I'm not going to badmouth Metro, and if my kid was there and was happy I am sure that I would stay. There is no way I would move there from another good club though thinking that the opportunity or overall soccer experience would be worth the extra cost and the extra commute to practice and games. Same for FCV. And I don't see GA getting any better over the next couple of years. On the ECNL side, parents should consider the move if they live close to both McLean and Springfield (impossible), or within a reasonable commute of another high level ECNL club (Pipeline, VDA, Arlington). Especially if you are rich and if you have family in NC and South Carolina that you like visiting a few times a year. Your kid should also be a top 6-7 player on their new team. Otherwise there is high drama and playing time is a concern. I get staying at a club to be their 18th kid, but I'm not moving to that club. If my kid isn't a starter and the team has more than 18 kids, then forget it. Take it from a parent who has been there and who has a healthier attitude the second time around. Chasing glory in youth sports isn't worth it. Parents should set expectations appropriately and prioritize happiness for your kid. This^ 100% but probably falls on deaf "elite" hearing ears here |
VYS tied Arlington's first team 3-3 and beat Maryland United so they have already demonstrated that they are competitive in head to head games. |
Agreed- but that was last year, for what its worth. You can look at FC Frederick and see they also beat MD United and BSC ECNL 2 times last year. All those teams may or may not have lost players this year or added some as well. VYS- has 2 losses in RL but they are to Beach and Richmond- 2 of the best teams in the RL Virginia this year. |
VYS beat Loudoun ECNL in the Spring also, but a lot can change over the summer. They play again at WAGS in a couple of weeks, so we will see. FC Delco and Delaware in that bracket too, so results will show the difference between upper level ECNL-RL team, versus mid-level ECNL Mid Atlantic, mid-level ECNL North Atlantic, and mid-level GA. |
No not this year. That was Arlington’s tournament last year. I think Arlington GA lost to another team in that one and did not make it out of the bracket? This is this year. Arlington Red is not a strong team and a 2-0 lost to them moves you out of the list. Playing CCL or ECNL-r really hurts you if you are a decent team. The level of competition is just not there. When you get to a tournament your players are just not ready. Frederick beat BSC and Maryland United not very strong teams either. It does not really matter. You have the top 2-3 teams and everyone else. If you but VYS and Frederick in the mix of teams below that you have to put Metro in there also. I guess the question marks are Arlington ECNL and Union. Do they move up to the top team category? Arlington does not seem to get marketable better over the season. The club seems to peak early and level off later as the season progresses. Other teams catch up and past them in the spring. Union is basically a new team and it will take time for them to come together as a team. We know the SYC players are pretty good but they are coming from the CCL. It will take to the spring to get a good read on them. |
No Union isn't the next VDA and neither is Arlington keep dreaming |
Who said Union or Arlington was the next VDA? Pretty defensive though, it makes one wonder just how that tie game actually went. |
Union already tied VDA. They will get better as the season progresses and new players learn the tactical system and get fully integrated in the team. VDA parent is defensive because VDA is on downward trajectory. |
You realize it was a tie? Union didn’t win the game. |
You realize McLean/Union won 2 games all last season and have already beaten FCV as well as tied VDA. It sounds like one team has improved. |
I will add that the person you responded to has severe reading comprehension problems. In response to the post that starts with "Union already tied VDA," the poster responds "You realize it was a tie? Union didn't win the game." |
Because Union parents are acting like they beat VDA and won the MA division. |
DP you know Union is a totally new team? There are only like 7-8 players from last years team. So as someone who has no connection to Union I would say it’s a good early result. Though there is no way that team is playing anywhere close to their potential. I do not know if these are Union parents posting here but you seem very sensitive. |
Your reading and comprehension is what sucks. Nobody claimed Union won, they all said it was a tie and that also means that VDA did not beat Union either. Considering Union won all of two games last year isn’t a tie against the mighty and all powerful VDA a sign of improvement? If you would rather it be a sign that VDA got worse you can have it that way too I guess. This is quite the defensive and overreaction to a tie though. And for the record a tie is a game that ends with both competitors scoring the same number of goals resulting in neither competitor winning or losing. |
It is basically the same team. McLean players are the starters with a new midfielder and new goalie who are both quite good. It was not the overhaul people think. |
