Here’s a PSA for everyone triggered by Meghan’s experience with racism.

Racism manifests itself in different ways in different environments. The most telling thing is that even all the wealth and privilege in the world cannot protect you from it.

Oprah is one of the wealthiest women in the world. Yet, even she was kicked out of a high end store in Paris because of her skin color.

Meghan Markle is literally a princess and she still had to deal with racist press. The most egregious was the BBC comparing her newborn to a monkey.

These experiences are relevant because success, wealth and power are often considered the solution to fighting racism. This underscores the need for greater societal change.

Thank god you guys are fighting for poor Oprah’s rights. You’re real difference makers.

Let me spell it out for you:

Oprah was the richest person in the entire city of Paris and she was kicked out of a store for being black. When she spoke out it shone a light on the treatment of black people in Paris. There are often many excuses for racist behavior and excluding black people from white spaces. Oprah’s experience destroys each and every one of those “plausible” justifications.

I’m happy that she was able to draw attention to widespread discrimination in the same way I’m happy Meghan was able to call out the British press for racism. They both used their position and power to force attention on racist practices. Their privilege and power means they cannot be ignored.

And this drives racists crazy! That’s why they’re so triggered by Meghan.

No, it's because they're disingenuous. There is racism in England. There is racism in the BRF. That's not why H&M fled to California. So when they point to racism, it is a deflection. It's unserious. They're unserious. Racism is a serious topic but they aren't.

So because they are phony best to ignore the whole serious subject?

The subject is about Meghan complaining that racism is the reason they bolted.. If that’s what you’re saying then yes.

So you think the British Parliament is phony and disingenuous?

Female MPs from all parties wrote a letter in solidarity with Meghan Markle. Do you think they’re unserious?

But they’ve cut extremely lucrative deals since then. Why would he still need to mooch off Pop?

I agree. When you’re an adult and enjoy so much wealth and privilege, why would you still whine about pops not giving you money?

I did not take it as a whine, but a simple statement of fact. He is also letting those like yourself understand that the reason he is making such lucrative deals is because he no longer have the financial support of the crown and must make money, by any means necessary to take care of his family.

Then he should be thanking them for making him so rich.

DP. Agree. Neither Harry nor Meghan is uniquely talented. All of their wealth is because of the BRF.
Except for what Harry inherited from his mother and except for the amount Meghan had made with her career.

Diana’s money came from her divorce settlement funded by Prince Charles, who happens to be a member of the BRF.

I want the kind of racism that Oprah and Meghan have. They are rich beyond belief and have time to complain behind their castle walls!

Only a white person who has never experienced racism would say some stupid shit like this. Would you say the same thing about a rich Jewish person who ihas to deal with anti-semitism all the time. Or a rich, gay man who is subjected to homophobic altercations, incidences, and slurs on a regular. Black people are the only people in this country who are constantly told to be appreciative that they are not living and thriving in the slums.

Whites have to just die according to Oprah.

No dumbass, the racist have to just die already. Good riddance.

DP: Yes, silence has often been effective in the face of racism. At least that’s what some people like to claim. /s

DP. In the past few years, Meghan has become enormously powerful, wealthy, and influential. If she’s been suffering from vicious racism this whole time, then lots of us will want to volunteer for some racial discrimination.

It minimizes actual racism when people pretend Meghan has been suffering from immense racism. Many people have experienced serious racism, but their lives don’t look a lot like Meghan’s.

I know you are smart enough to know that does not insulate a person fully from racism. Oprah is also very wealthy and influential, but that did not prevent ugly racism from rearing its nasty head against her in many directions. She has opined about it, and most people know about the Hermes incident. Clarence Thomas spoke at the National Bar Association many years ago, wherein he spoke of being pulled over several times for "driving while Black". Nothing has stopped the nasty, disgusting pictures and statements comparing Michelle Obama to an ape or horse. Let's not mention the extra security the SS had and has to provide to Barack simply because of the threats he receives due to his race. I won't even try to address your immense racism comment. It's like if you a person does not experience "for whites only", lynching, physical acts, etc. then racism is not so bad and no need to complain. You are wrong, every little knick and cut adds up and it is tiring, frustrating, exhausting and depressing.

Uh Camilla regularly was compared to a horse. And lots people dont like Obama because of his policies. You can dislike people for reasons other than race ya know.

Now I’m supposed feel sorry for Oprah because she’s supposedly a victim of racism? That’s gonna be a no from me.

Oprah is among the most privileged people in the world. God love her! She’s earned it.

Nobody asked you to feel sorry for Oprah or anyone else. The point is that money does not insulate a person from being on the receiving end of racism. Just like money does not insulate a person from the receiving end of sexism.

DP. You’re wrong. Money does indeed insulate a person from discrimination. Do you really believe rich people experience as much discrimination as poor people? That’s just silly.

Not as much, but they do experience it. It it is still, too much. Or do you think a little bit of racism is good. How much is a little bit and how much is too much for it to be acceptable for you.

Sounds more like to me that Oprah thinks racists come in only one color - white, which is a bad look. It works both ways many white people have experienced racism too. But muh privilege.

Sadly, no one can prevent all discrimination. I’m a woman, so I understand that I will be sexually harassed when I leave my house. But I don’t whine about it constantly. What would be the point?

I’m sorry that you view being vocal about sexually harassment as “whining”. It’s not. It’s a violation of your civil rights.

Maybe if you saw more value in your own civil rights you would be able to value the rights of others.

And that’s why I should be raped, right? Maybe it will teach me a lesson?

Meghan stans are just as classless as their idol.

No, that’s why we should value and stand up for civil rights of all kinds for all people.

I’m not clear how or why you jumped from my comment that you should value your own civil rights as well as the rights of others — to talking about rape and idols.

No matter how much you lie, it doesn’t make it true. No one is saying you should be raped. Rather they are saying that a dismissive attitude around harassment promulgates rape. For victims, we get it. You’re just a fricking idiot squawking lies and continuing to show your stupidity and double down on your foolishness.

Reporting future lies because it detracts from this “entertainment” forum where the entire statement you made about not caring about sexual harassment was dumb anyway.

Start with Obama. Oprah. Billie Holiday. Continue.. forever.

Money doesn’t stop sexual harassment or misogyny either.

Awareness and conversation challenging the lie is critical to change the environment.

Nope. She’s a dunce. She tried to argue that rich people don’t get discriminated against, then that harassment isn’t a big deal so why should anyone complain about it, then tried to argue that the Internet wanted her to be raped when they pulled her bs card on the responsibility we have to speak up around injustice no matter who it is.

We aren’t all dunces.

I'm not sure I understand what Oprah is doing. Is she worried about being shut out of future BRF access? I would think she would know that she'll probably never get access to anyone but Meghan and Harry in the future.

Oprah doesn’t care about future BRF access. The bulk of her focus seems to be on developing content and less on interviews. Also did she previously have any access to the BRF to begin with? I don’t really remember her ever interviewing Will and Kate before.

If Oprah wanted to interview any member of the BRF, including Queen Elizabeth, the BRF would agree to the interview. She is smart enough to know that they won't dish dirt and slam other members of the BRF as Meghan and Harry did.
