The rioting and looting were a result of the reaction to this awful death.
They are hurting innocent business owners, destroying property, and causing the taxpayers of the city undue costs.

The police station and police cars that were damaged and destroyed? They'll be repaired and replaced - at the taxpayers expense.

Black lives matter more than Target stores. It's pretty simple. And I live in South Minneapolis. I've gone to that Target many times. We have hundreds more and tons of Minute Clinics. This is Minneapolis, HQ of Target - we aren't suffering for retail options. Get a sense of perspective.

I get that. But wouldnt a peaceful march with thousands of people uniting for this cause be better? Wouldnt those images make a better impact for the world?? how is tearing apart a store helping?

Please tell me the last time a peaceful march by relatively powerless people accomplished actual systemic change in this country. Keep in mind, that this is not just about a murder, it's about yet another murder committed by an authority representing the state. Maybe you can imagine how hard it might be for a black person to pay taxes and see what those tax dollars actually pay for.

Tearing a store apart is not helping -- but it is probably a healthier reaction to many lifetimes of oppression and murder than some of the alternatives. There is no cohesive "black community", but for the sake of the discussion, if the white community -- you know, the people who have the political and economic clout in this country -- were to march and protest and actively and publicly work for change, maybe positive changes would actually appear possible.
