Does it really matter though? There's more than one person saying they told DJ something the teacher did that was inappropriate and I've seen at least one post (maybe more) saying they know people told DJ they weren't comfortable with this teacher changing their child's diapers. Even if it was something fairly mild each time how many times do you think the school should be told a teacher did something even borderline inappropriate before the school takes it seriously? One time maybe the school can brush it off and say it was innocent but my personal feeling is if you hear something twice (from different people), you take it seriously but the school did not. I'm not sure how far beyond DJ it went but someone should be responsible for ignoring more than 1 complaint about teacher. Some people on here are trying to blame the parents (way to blame the victims) by saying they should have reported it to the police but you don't know what it was that happened and it sounds like until very recently the parents may not have known more than one person even had a complaint. Maybe they thought it was an isolated incident and if the school brushed it off and defended the teacher and said they knew him for a long time and know he didn't mean anything bad by his actions maybe you'd choose to believe the school. My issue is that if the school administrators are the only ones who knew how many times parents had complained about this teacher it was their duty to investigate it and take it seriously. Not repeatedly blow off the parents until something worse happened.

And I've also heard that the parent who wasn't comfortable with "this teacher" changing their child's diaper was a dad who wasn't comfortable with ANY male teacher changing his daughter's diaper. Certainly that's not something the school can take too seriously.

Agreed. One can only say it was a warning sign after the fact - hindsight is 20/20. If it was a diapering issue or a funny look issue, I wouldn’t really call that a warning sign because as a stand-alone event, it’s not. Understanding the underpinnings of the accusation of “ignored warning signs” will allow me, at least, to decide for myself if the school exercises good judgement. For me, it all depends on what the “warning signs” are. If you’re not going to disclose them, then I don’t think it is fair to cry wolf in a public forum.

I also heard that one of the complaints given to DJ was from a father who did not want this teacher to diaper his child. From my understanding after talking to several teachers, this was not an issue. The teacher in question never changed diapers. I agree that the above poster should share her information about previous knowledge. She keeps posting about it but in very vague terms. Every time someone asks, she becomes even more invasive.

Now
It is because of their past issues

So are people sending their kids this fall or not? I am past the preschool age, but I would withdraw.

We have decided to stay at the preschool and our son is thriving. He loves his teachers and is very happy. DJ has been very helpful and has answered all of our questions. We believe we have made the correct choice.

We got an Israeli woman au pair in part because of all of the issues at Jewish preschools (JCC abandons child in park, sex abuse scandals). At some point we will have to trust - but here and now -nope.

I always thought it was creepy for a man to be diapering a baby that wasn't his. Who does that?

You can't be serious. What kind of retrograde sexist worldview are you living in? Only a woman could want (or need) a job working at a daycare? No male could reasonably be interested in early education unless he is a pedophile. That's absurd and is a mindset that traps women in certain jobs, in addition to disadvantaging males.

And what do you propose the school do about it? It would be clearly illegal to refuse to hire a daycare worker because he was male. The prejudice of clients doesn't allow a business to discriminate.

Ugh that’s quite different than the impression given on this bord in early posts

Our child is also staying this year. It’s hard to be there as an adult, with all this unresolved. But my child had a great start to the year, has a great teacher, and I do want to disrupt that by pulling him out.

We are also staying. There has yet to be an arrest which means that there is not yet enough evidence for the police to do so. Even if there is. We were immediately emailed telling us there was an investigation and to our knowledge no one tried to hide this. I understand that because the police are investigating, they and the school are not allowed to share many details as that would harm the investigation. It seems like there are some people on here that are posting false information because nothing has been shared by the police. At this point it is all speculation.

I also feel it is ludicrous that a man could not be a good teacher. That seems like a very sexiest statement. Should they also not be nurses or flight attendants. Maybe our daughter should not dream to be a fireman, or god forbid, the CEO of a company.

I love that this forum gives us a chance for dialogue, but I am also waiting to hear the truth which will only come out after the investigation is finished.

I also feel that the school has been aboveboard in sharing information that they could during the police investigation. There has been no coverup, and I heard that the school has been helping the police every wat that they can. . I believe anyone saying they are not are trying to spread false conjecture. We all want to know what is happening with the police investigation,it’s happening agonizingly slow. If anyone has information that will help the investigation, please contact the police detective.

There were multiple families that requested he not diaper.

Ok. From my understanding he did not diaper children. But it also goes back to a sexiest attitude. You are saying that only woman can do certain jobs and only men can do others. With the new Supreme Court you can maybe get a law passed. I, for one, do not believe we should go back to living in caves.
