Teen Mom OG

My diagnosis is delayed grief. She could take another few years to get over it. She has basically become a lost cause

I don't think it's that. She moreso than Tyler seems very aware that Brandon and Theresa are Carly's parents and respects that relationship. I think she cares about Carly but knows that she is with a good family and happy and doesn't hold any claim to her. What I do think is going on is that her life, because she stayed chained to Tyler, has been small and isolated and she has not achieved any of what she gave up Carly to achieve. No degree, no career, not even a job. They didn't travel. They have sat in shit town Michigan and done nothing. Having Nova only made this worse because I think she saw what a great little kid Carly turned into and somehow thought that was because of her and Tyler's amazing genes. Then she had another kid and realized what work went into that and she wasn't ready or even appropriately equipped to do that for Nova. I think Catelynn has enough awareness to know Nova does not have the life that she deserves or that Carly has, but doesn't have the life skills to actually give it to her, and that agonizes her and messes with her mentally. Breaking the cycle didn't happen at all and she doesn't have the tools to even begin to try and she knows it's ultimately failing Nova.

Wow, well said! Catelynn was the reason I started watching this terrible show in the first place. I'm so sad for her for all of the reasons you mention.

I think Brandon and Teresa are the only true models of healthy, successful adults Catelynn has in her life - and I think some of what seems like her having a hard time letting go of Carly is really not wanting to let go of the only stable adults she has in her life.

I really feel for all of the girls - money doesn't buy common sense and it can't overcome a life with little to no parenting. I wish MTV would get them all real counseling and not just crappy Dr. Drew.

I'm pretty sure Maci is from an upper middle class family who is educated. She was chugging along with college even with Bentley. I think with Jade and now FAS Baby on the way she's given up on college. Which is a shame.

Amber and Catelynn both really need to go to college and stop sitting around at home navel-gazing.

Maci's family was doing OK compared to those of the other teen moms, but her mom was a teen mom also, her dad was recently arrested for kiting checks, and Maci herself hasn't finished a two-year Associates degree in seven years.

Simon is along for the free ride and ratings. I don't feel bad for him at all.

Good for Gary putting shit aside and going to Amber's surprise party. There's a glimmer of hope for them.

Maci.... Maci Maci Maci. She needs to be on BC or what's his name needs to get a vasectomy. They are a fertile couple. At least they are able to support themselves and the growing herd.

Catelynn is going through such a rough time. I hope she gets the help she needs. Clearly buying the pig she was hoping to mask her issues. Poor Tyler, he's one of the good guys on the show. He's trying to be so strong for her.

Tyler is a grade-A asshole.
Evidence:
-Demands phone records to prove Catelynn did not "cheat with her ex" when she was Florida, near some kid who was her boyfriend when she was like 11 years old (early TM)
-Beating their dog and shoving his face in the shit (while screaming "EAT IT!") after the dog had an accident in the house
-Constant comments on Catelynn's weight (despite becoming a bit of a doughboy himself) in the guise of "helping motivate her." see also: "I don't want to be married to no heifer"
-Insists he doesn't want more children until Catelynn gets her psychological problems "fixed" (vs. I don't want more children because we're not ready. No, Cate, it's on you.)
-Routinely criticizes and deliberately disrespects Brandon and Theresa, which jeopardizes their opportunities to communicate with Carly, something Catelynn apparently holds very dear. B&T have set very basic and reasonable ground rules that Tyler finds annoying because he doesn't like being told what to do. Tyler: they can't tell me what to do! Catelynn: If it means keeping my relationship with Carly, I'll do/not do whatever they want.
-Chastising Catelynn's "lack of direction" while he has accomplished equally little with his life
-Criticizing Catelynn's use of weed to manage her depression, while admitting on social media that he himself smokes pot "whenever I have free time."
-Doesn't help with Nova, but rationalizes that Catelynn should ask him for help if she needs it

Etc etc etc etc...

Tyler is most definitely NOT one of the good guys. He's not trying to be strong for Catelynn. His whole monologue was about how Catelynn's depression and need for therapy affects HIM.

Anyway, I am clearly way too invested in the lives of these people.

How long do they film? Do you really think we see enough of them to really make those accusations? Those things (for the most part) were one time things. I've definitely said things to DH that I didn't mean and apologized for after the fact. Do you really think that would make the final cut (if it was even recorded)? For someone so "invested" you'd think you would have a better understanding of reality tv.

Yea, this. Beer gets in the way of school for her.

Farah: Her body looks like everything that's wrong with the Kardashian bodies. She is disgusting. The part where she does her podcast and someone calls in and asks Larry how he can work with Farrah? His answer is so kiss-ass, and Farrah is totally removed from reality. Did anyone else notice poor Sophia seemed to not have friends at her birthday party, and Debra got through it by downing wine? Why hasn't Simon moved on already? He can do better. Weird how Farrah bought her own engagement ring.

Caitlyn: Do they truly do nothing but sit on their couch all day every day? What happened to school? I guarantee Caitlyn would be feeling better about herself if she were going to school and moving FORWARD with her education/job stuff.

Maci: I love Bentley. He told his mama she looked fat! I wish Ryan wouldn't introduce B to every girl he hooks up with. I agree with Maci that Bentley looks at Ryan as a big brother. I wish the fiancé would shave his beard - it looks AWFUL.

Amber: Amber, like Caitlyn, needs to get off her couch and go DO something with her life. The fact that her fiancé, who has 93 children he denies having, is spending money on stupid tattoos is the nail in the coffin for me. Just when I thought I couldn't think any less of him, he went and got a tattoo. I loved how the tattoo artist was making fun of his prior tattoos "Wait, so you got 'clean and sober' while you were DRUNK?!" Amber would also feel better if she realized she was okay without a man, and got a job.

About the podcast: that sounded like a phony caller. I'd bet money they hire people to call in and they give the caller a script.

Yeah Tyler is not a great guy. He was mature in his 16 and Pregnant episode but has somehow regressed thanks to "fame" and this show. He's a disengaged parent, not supportive of Catelynn, controlling, whiny and entitled. I mean really a pudgy man child who sits around smoking all day and not working and he has the nerve to say Catelynn has no aspirations?

I don't think we see enough of their actual situation to make that call. They get what, maybe 10min of airtime a week? Of course they are going to show stuff that will cause conflict. You think the audience wants to see him being sweet, nice and responsible? That's not TV worthy.

I wonder if one of the ways Catelynn bonds with her mother is by smoking weed with her. I wonder if her quitting will cause a rift in their relationship.

I do not think Tyler is as bad as a couple of people here. I think he means well. He clearly could use a male role model.

WTH is he still doing with her? I cannot believe he wants the world to see him get kicked in the balls by Farrah on every episode.

Insane. She is so mean to him. She's verbally abusive to everyone in her life. Wtf indeed.

Considering her attitude, does anyone else think it's weird that she cries so easily?

Not at all. Happens to a lot of people who are completely ruled by their emotions rather than logic.

She didn't quit, so no worries In real time, she uses social media to talk about "medicating." She responded to criticism of that scene with April and her, and admitted that it was wrong for her to be "medicating while driving."

I'm one of the anti-Tyler folks, and am certainly open to reading others perspectives of him. I think we can all agree that we definitely do NOT see the whole picture each week (although these kids posting on Twitter/Insta/Whatevergram 24/7 certainly helps add more details!), and any criticisms or praise are all relative to the expectations we can have for anybody starring in a TV show about becoming a parent in high school.

Farrah only cries when truth is pointed out to her and she's forced to confront that and how ugly a person she is on the inside.

Why does everyone dislike maci? She seems the most sane, so what am I missing?
