Trump is blocking a border deal in the Senate

(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

Because Trump tried to use that statute to "close the border" and the court found it was an illegal use of the authority in East Bay Sanctuary Covenant v. Trump.

How many threads are you going to post this in?

The courts overturned this law because Trump used it illegally.

Thus, Biden cannot do the same thing unless you are supporting lawless authoritiariansim.

As such, the fix is in the Senate bill. Support it and the Administration can take action. Let is expire and the GOP will "own" the issue in a bad way.

What Trump did was deemed illegal by the courts. As such, the course of action is for the Senate and House to pass a bill so that the president has the authority to do as you suggest.

So if the House chooses not to bring the Senate bill to a vote, then the House GOP will own the chaos.

The economy is humming along, so the GOP needs something to scream about. That's their entire reason for opposing the bill. All their caterwauling about it being a "bad bill" is just theater.

That’s cute.

Inflation has lowered everybody’s lifestyle and part time jobs are replacing full time jobs.

Tax receipts are down reflecting contraction

Inflation was a global issue because of COVID.

The US under Biden has managed it better than every other country.

Facts matter. If you don;t like the inflation, then the blame lies at the hands of the president who screwed up the COVID response. That would be Donald Trump.

Well they haven’t released the text yet, despite it being apparently done. So all we hear are leaks, and the leaks that have come out are not promising.

There is FINALLY acknowledgment by the left and public pressure on them to crack down on immigration. I’d rather not see a half-assed bill that hides the problem but doesn’t fix it.

If the text comes out and it’s actually good and much closer to HR 2 than what the leaks have lead us to believe, I’d happily admit I’m wrong and start complaining about the house and Trump if they try to kill it.

But I’m not holding my breath.

We have a split government. When that happens, both sides need to give and take. To a person, the GOP negotiating this deal have said it is a good deal, that they are getting 80% of what they asked for and it should get passed and signed into law. Maybe of the GOP had passed a bill when it controlled the House, Senate and White House, there would be a different narrative, but that isn't where we are now. Take the win on both sides and move on to the next issue.

The give is the billions in even more aid to Ukraine. Something many GOP did not want to do.

Because the GOP is handing Russia a gift.

It's the same play over and over again from the GOP: scream about a problem until they suck all the air out the room, then chuck any bill that comes along because f you, that's why. Lucy, football, etc.

The bill doesn’t close the border.

Americans want it closed.

Americans need Trump to get that done because he’s the only leader who wants to do what the American people want.

"Closing the border" is simply not feasible. It sounds great, but it's totally unworkable. Wonderful sound bite, though.

Because Trump is the one who broke the law to 'close the border" even though in 2019, there were still over 4,000 illegal crossings per day.
