I don’t buy this explanation. There are a lot of Asian kids, from these two schools, posting their results. The vast majority of their college destinations are not great. |
Yes, very impressive! I’m not a Sidwell parent, but credit should be given where credit is due. There are a bunch of Sidwell haters in the Private School Forum. Being considered the top school in the DMV is great for Sidwell. The downside is that it makes the school a constant target. |
These results are mediocre as well: https://instagram.com/beyondthebulldog2023?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Aren’t Churchill, Langley, and McLean supposed to be among the best comprehensive public schools in the DC Metro?!? Where is the public school admissions bump I keep hearing about? 190 posts and only 5 Ivies? It looks like Churchill is a greased slide to UMD and VT though. |
Hey, 1995 called and wants its list of the “best comprehensive public schools” in the DMV back. |
There are 500 kids in the graduating class at Langley and 70 colleges posted. There are over 100 Asian students per year. That being said, maybe Langley had a bad year. I don’t know. I’m just staying the instagram seems incomplete. |
Public school parent here and Sidwell deserves respect. So do St Albans and Bullis. I do not necessarily think the other privates are better in terms of college admissions compared to the better publics. Public school kids are just more likely to go to their state publics due to cost. |
I’m not about to count the number of Asians that posted on the Langley Instagram page…but there are a lot. Only a tiny fraction are going to colleges that would impress and excite most people. I’m sure the vast majority of the remaining Langley students (of all races) who haven’t posted have results that mirror what we already see on the page. |
There is basically only 2 races at Langley. |
I’m not a parent at either school, but the amount of hate on this forum for both Sidwell and GDS is honestly laughable. Both are clearly phenomenal schools who consistently show impressive results with their students. They each may have a random off year, but in the aggregate they put their money where their mouth is. |
The recent Sidwell posts are all hooked kids as well. Harvard is legacy, Brown legacy, Penn URM. It's the same story. |
Yes, hooked vs. unhooked, ED or not ED etc…is the same story at GDS, Sidwell or NCS. Same story everywhere, why pick on GDS kids? One school that’s doing very well is SWW. Congratulations to all kids! |
YES! The recent admits that Sidwell posted are all hooked kids: mostly legacy from very high profile, $$$, law-partner parents. Any school on the planet could have placed them into their parents' alma maters. These private high schools can only work with what they've been given. If they get a class of the kids of high-honor alums they are golden. Random federal employees (like myself)--well then you're looking at the (even high achieving) kids ending up at the type of schools you would all scoff at. |
| Is there one for St John’s? |
This. People love to brag about the MCPS W schools, and yes some kids end up at ivies. But when you look at the percentage of the student body, it is minuscule compared to some of the top private high schools. And I am zoned for Churchill FWIW. |
Yes. All legacy kids are only allowed to attend private schools. |
