Airplane noise concerns overblown?

Anonymous
Plane noise and pollution is about to get much, much worse in the Palisades and Foxhall. Like it could be worse. But it can.

Neighbors @Palisades, @Foxhall etc. have been complaining about miserable lives under the flight path on the listserve. The hypocrisy is just too much. Buyer beware. It’s unbearable in my opinion, and about to get worse.

I notice an airplane fly over McLean once in a while. It’s hard to tell how far it is, but it’s def audible. Are those the same flights? Or a different flight path.

Tell them to sell. We are ready to jump on a nice house in the Palisades.

Should be the same. It is flights to/from Reagan flying over the Potomac.

I’m sure you are. Someone should unsuck the Palisades’ neighbors. People on the listserve are freaking out, using adjectives like unbearable, constant etc., but on here it’s like oh no you’re an over sensitive Millennial Moron. I don’t buy it. It sucks. Unless you are deaf; in which case it’s still polluted. It’s just idiotic to buy there. There I said it.

Then sell your house. Many people will eagerly buy it.

Precisely. I do not understand why these people don’t just move.

It's unhinged. I live in this area and it doesn't bother me at all. It never comes up with neighbors. It's just not an issue at all.

The more pertinent question is are these people wrong? Are the scientists wrong? Why are posts here and what you say on the Palisades listserve completely the opposite.

Please ask him. I am convinced it’s not the case because of the posts you seem to be reacting to, I wrote 1 post and 1 response. The rest agree with me but I don’t know them.

PSA: free country, free choice. However, You should be informed. Plane noise and pollution are objectively bad in the Palisades. I don’t want to pretend. It’s increasingly not manageable for most people who care about a quality of life and their and their children’s health. My opinion. Fact based.

2nd response. Who says they have not moved? Several people who went public moved. People are moving. They are not blasting it so they can sell. But honestly, it’s crazy to me to lie quite so much to your prospective neighbors.

Is it not true neighbors as far off the river as W recently sounded fairly despondent about the noise on the listserve? Is it not true there’s a plane a minute? Come on.

I don’t live in the Palisades and I am not disputing there are flights. But it is not something people can’t figure out on their own. Why are you so worked up about this if you do not even live there? If the problem really is so big, buyers will notice when they come view the property.

Really? People don’t notice holes in the roof during a rarely granted inspection, but they are going to notice plane noise on a Sunday afternoon when it’s the lowest in the week? They are all informed enough to know how horrible the largely invisible pollution is for them and especially their kids? For real!! Like it’s not stressful enough to go house shopping.

Just don’t lie. How hard is that?

Don’t know about the others, but I’m worked up because you’re stonewalling so much it’s embarrassing for me as a fellow human being.

I live near Dulles. Getting new, not super cheap windows helped immensely. That said, I don't feel I can complain because I chose to live between two busy airports. That's on me.

Residents can complain, but the reality is that if MWAA accommodates one neighborhood it just moves the problem to another. Then the next hood complains. It would literally be a never-ending battle that they could never win.

I feel bad for people who didn't know any better, and I get annoyed to from time to time, but I don't think I'm entitled to any changes.

Crazy. Right? At these “lock in” rates, and as more and more people become immune to being shamed into being lied to about the horrible airplane noise and pollution in the Foxhall and Palisades? Just sell. How dare you tell the truth!

I did move.

It’s really that bad.
