2023 Girls ISL and WCAC outlook

Clearly all the teams have talent but it depends on the day. Visi is still the best based on their win over Mcdonough and destroying SSSA. Great win for Potomac regardless.

Visi beat SSSA by 7, which was only 2 more than SR beat Visi by. So, not sure if I agree that Visi "destroyed SSSA". Visi is the only team of the three with 2 losses, but "clearly the best", and my understanding was the the SR win over Visi was not as close as the score indicated.

Bucky just rolls out the balls and shows up with the clipboard.

The visi coaching carousel yet again…

What does that mean?

What does SSSA win say about SR coaching? How were they not ready? SR also has just squeaked by St John’s and BI and lost to PVI (and GC early in season). While SSSA is young, they have some really, really strong young players. Will be interesting next few years.

All these games need shot clocks now. Holding the ball FOREVER and running the clock is so silly - let the girls play! It distorts results (even though of course is within the current ISL/WCAC rules). It doesn’t help them playing teams outside DMV. Even if no shot clock during those games, the other teams play faster.

Don't hate the coaches and their tactics, they are playing within the rules.

The reason a shot cock doesn't exist in the girls' game in this area is that there is a referee shortage. It requires an additional official to attend every game to manage and monitor. Despite what parents think, you can't just have some HS girl on her iPhone or a parent managing the shot clock.

it’s beyond time for a shot clock in the ISL. After this year, it’s desperately needed.

you are missing the point lady, they need more officials!

Terrible call by ref at the end of the Potomac VISI game. Called game winning goal back for “offsides”, clearly not offsides on a fast break. NO way to tell. Who paid that female ref?

Visi was a player down due to a yellow card. They had 7 over the restraining line when they scored, so they were offsides. Learn the rules...

typical visitation parents, blaming the loss yesterday due to poor officiating

learn to lose with class and move on to the next one

It means Visi coaches are always quitting or getting fired because they have no support from admin or parents. Coaching there is not worth the pain.

This is a very helpful post. Does this mean that there is not a shortage on the boys side for referees? I do know that one of the referees at the Saints SR game drove down from Baltimore yesterday. He did so because of the girls referee shortage in this area. He mentioned that several refs quit after the Covid period. Agree that there should be a shot clock, but hard to fault the coaches given the rules.

except there is no ref (wo)manning the clock now, so not sure how true the PP is about the clock/ref. The field refs could easily control or direct the a shot clock as well.

Very unlikely you can say that with any certainty unless you reviewed the film. It was a fast break goal where it would be very hard to get six girls over the line (the man up part is correct). After the goal, the team rushed together so impossible to call at that point. Offsides is hard enough to call when everyone is stationary and in no way should have been called unless the ref was certain which given the circumstances described she could not have been. It just typified the very poor reffing all game.

Is the SJC Visi game still happening or being postponed due to the weather?
