Speaker of the House Vote Thread

At some point someone is going to ask for a plurality vote and this is when the Freedom Caucus shuts up, holds their nose, and votes for Kevin.

They'd only do this if McCarthy had more votes than Jeffries, but not enough to reach 218.

The need enough votes to make the change. The people willing to continue voting against McCarthy aren't going to vote for a rules change that paves the way for him to get elected, and there is no reason for the democrats to give the republicans an easy way out of this.

What if McCarthy promised to pass a clean debt-ceiling increase?

Again, this is NOT the Democrats job to fix GOP dysfunction. I get it, Dems always need to be the grownups in the room. But as a parent, you need to let your kids be on their own path, even if it means failing. So please STOP with the "Dems should do this..." nonsense. The GOP is the majority, they need to get their act together or step aside and let the grownups be in charge.

Also, McCarthy wouldn’t honor any promise made to Democrats.

That aside, if he doesn't even have the votes to get himself elected, what makes anyone think he'd be able to hold any promises he makes? Even assuming that his words are worth anything.

Byron is a second termer with a bank fraud conviction. Perfect for today’s GOP.

Judging from all the applause, Donalds sounds like he might be a lock.

For the MAGA caucus, yes. I predict he won’t take any votes from McCarthy.

Hilarious to see these woefully self-unaware comments from the people backing the Freedumb Caucus:

Hey Einstein, you're complaining about the fact that Kevin McCarthy lacks the negotiating skills and common ground to get himself a dozen more votes to get the Speakership.

You're missing the fact that YOUR little wackadoo faction lacks the negotiating skills to make ANY inroads into getting the trust, confidence or vote the other 415 House members.

What a complete clown show. 🤡

+1000

If the GOP clownshow wants to get any help or support from the Democrats, they need to do some serious soul searching and to rethink some of their positions rather than continually doubling down on the MAGA idiocy.

Dems will oppose that unless they get something significant out of it.

And would a polosi staffer have to write every. single. procedural. detail for her daily? She doesn't have the attention span or reading ability.

Dang, they got 20 votes and a present this time.
Anonymous
Significance of sparks voting 'present'?
Anonymous
And McCarthy snatches defeat from the jaws of...defeat, losing one vote that has changed to "present"
