No. It is not. Alcoholism is a disease and so is obesity. You are a fool.

Somehow people managed to be much slimmer a few decades ago.

Sedentary habits and diets are certainly behind a great deal of obesity.

Pot should not be legalized and legalizing pot is only making it worse for more people.

I am liberal but restorative justice/not holding kids accountable is a terrible idea
Kids need to meet certain minimum criteria to graduate high school. Not just in theory.

Agree with all three

Me too. Also, it's ridiculous to expect schools to get students with IQs in the 50s and 60s and even low 70s on the same level as their peers.

They also managed to be shorter

Neither is a disease. People just need training on how to live with their compulsion to over-drink or over-eat. Stop making excuses for weak people.

Nobody should drink alcohol.

Stop nut free classrooms. 90% of kids do NOT have FA’s!

Agree. Public schools would be so much better without all the catering to the IEP’s and 504’s. Pretty soon those kids and poor kids will be all that are left in the publics because everyone else will have left.

Oh puhleeze … our DD had an IEP and is now doing a PhD in a rarefied stem field … her BF had an IEP and now works for NASA. Many many students with IEPs are truly brilliant (gifted talented with learning differences) … if they get the supports they need when they are young, they usually have a lot to contribute to society. If they don’t, they are much more prone to being life long burdens on either their families or the state. It is a win win for them and society to help them to flourish.

But why should the taxpayer have to pay for your kid's special education?

Well it is the law - The IDEA Act was passed in the 1970s.

Many teaching strategies used to help students with LDs represent best practices for neuro typical children as well.

However, in our case we moved her to a private therapeutic then to a mainstream private that execute IEPS but with much less bureaucracy and more common sense.

However, it is in society’s interests to help students with LDs to succeed as otherwise they are much higher risk for drug and alcohol abuse/ mental illness and squandering their many talents.

Awwww poor rich kids. Life is so hard for them. GOOD RIDDANCE!

That's what I say every morning as I drive my children past their old public elementary school to their private school as I see the series of short buses pull up to the public school. Why people think those of limited ability should be forced into classes with normal children is ridiculous.

You’re joking right? You don’t really think that being disabled means you shouting go to school with your neighbors?

Obesity is not necessarily a choice. Food companies are manipulating our food to basically crave more crappy food. It is not that simple.

The obesity surgery I had in Mexico was the best thing I did to save my life!

We are not really educating our kids in public school. We are teaching them to take a state test that tells you nothing!

NP. Opinions:

Distance learning wasn’t education for all but maybe .01% of kids.

If a student causes a room to be cleared more than three times, they should be removed from general education for the rest of the year.

The oldest daughters of families with more than three kids are de facto maids and babysitters and don’t get a chance to be kids.

People who use the phrase “calories in, calories out” or who talk about “willpower” with respect to solving the obesity crisis are profoundly stupid.

Redshirting is irrelevant and people who get upset by it have never had any real problems in their lives. They are childlike in that respect and need to be handled carefully, like one would an overly sensitive child. (I didn’t redshirt.)

SAH or WOH is irrelevant to outcome and irrelevant to whether you are a good parent or not. (I have both SAH and WOH.)

Breastfeeding is not nearly as important as some people like to think it is (I breastfed two years each kid).

Wow so old fashioned and non science based assumptions.

1. Neurological diversity is the norm.

2. Being neuro typical is no guarantee of a high IQ just as having learning differences by no means implies lack of intelligence or ability.

3. Many mainstream privates have learning specialists now because there is increasing recognition that it is common for children/youth to have some kind of neurological diversity that requires easy to apply supports (extended time/ seating with reduced distractions/ use of computer for writing, which most kids prefer now anyway/ clear communication of assignment requirements and dead lines).

4. Many children/ youth with learning differences have non academic qualities that add a great deal to their school communities (for example, empathy, creativity, athletics, big picture non linear thinking and social skills).

The short bus kids may be the ones with the biggest hearts, the greatest ideas, and the quirky innovations that contribute in rich ways to school communities.
