Do you folk realize every time you open up your mouth, either here, at an ANC meeting, or on any of the listservs, you keep losing support? Honestly, most of us really didn't care either way. But the 'smart growth' people made straightforward arguments (i.e. Wisconsin and CT ave are not that close) and you guys started spouting weird conspiracy theories and made personal attacks. Basically you are a laughingstock. Most of us think you should just sell and move to Florida or whatever multi-millionaire retires do. |
This is from Bob Ward's blog and from previous posts on this board it seems like he alone draws the maps. |
Would you like your tinfoil hat to be embroidered with "CP"? |
Priced out. There aren't many single-family homes left to buy and most of the voting population now lives in condos or apartments on Wisconsin/CT ave. There are no 'young' NIMBYs left in CP. |
He seems a lot more reasonable and knowledgeable about things compared to the weird people who keep shouting during meetings. But you can also download the maps yourself. Many others have done so. Now most of the NIMBYs are functionally computer illiterate, so it admittedly is difficult for them. The source describes the new maps in words, literally using the street boundaries: https://lims.dccouncil.us/downloads/LIMS/48953/Meeting3/Amendment/B24-0700-Amendment1.pdf The redistricting website: https://dcredistricting.esriemcs.com/redistricting/ Other people who have exported PDFs: https://twitter.com/chenderson/status/1534281567601827842 https://twitter.com/HillRagDC/status/1534669107571867648 https://twitter.com/ZachBIsrael/status/1534275089834946564 https://twitter.com/frozenchipmunk/status/1534403142909034497 |
It's weird the way they always fall back on personal attacks -- Bob Ward, Tricia Duncan, Troy Kravitz. It's almost as if they know their arguments have no merits so they feel the need to personalize things. |
The above “tinfoil hat” sounds like a very Trumpy “fake news’s” deflection. But Mr Ward’s checkered professional ties are a matter of public record. |
The wings at Nanny's are good, so I'll give them credit for that. But if it is such a small echo chamber, why are they winning? If most people don't agree with them, it would seem no amount of retweeting each others tweets would be very effective. "Astroturf" implies there is no grassroots support, which I think has been disproven in a pretty compelling way given the engagement we've seen for things like the Macklin, the last ANC election, Connecticut Ave lane study, support for more CT Av density. There are actually a lot of residents that agree with them. And I think this continued succession of defeats is contributing to this truly bizarre level of person attacks that have nothing to do with redistricting or any of these other issues. What I don't see is the next generation of residents that will wage the battles to preserve the status quo, so maybe we are nearing the end of an error. |
I disagree. There’s a whole bunch that bought houses over the past few years. It’s just that these battles seem a net loss. Mostly we hope our NIMBY ism flies under the radar. Stick your neck out, next thing you know one of you blocks my addition |
Why are "they" winning? Smart Growth signed up an experienced operative who forms advocacy group, poll tests and crafts messaging for private interests. This is what his firm does for a living. He's very effective at what he does, and engages resources to create and push content across social media channels. Ward and his opaque group organize and provide material support to candidates, something that nonprofit community-based orgs are prohibited from doing. He's essentially the campaign manager and spokesperson for Beau Finley right now and has recruited and backed ANC candidates and commissioners who will push the Smart Growth agenda. He got himself and two associates appointed to the redistricting task force where they pushed for a "radical" redistricting (Chairman Mendelson's conclusion) of the local ANC, departing from Council guidelines and norms. This is not unlike the aggressive moves that other GOP operatives are making across the country to disregard rules and brazenly gerrymander electoral districts to enhance the chance of winning in the next elections. It is disturbing that Cheh would hand over the redistricting pen to a Republican operative so connected to the Trump campaign and some of of more notorious national GOP political practitioners, not to mention who just four years ago was working with someone under felony indictment and Russian state interests to interfere with democracy in Ukraine. Yes, it's true that community residents have been playing a game of stickball compared to a major league Trumpworld pollster and operative. |
Why do you need to keep relying on weird russia/trump things. This is local politics, nobody care about your weird shadowy conspiracy theories you pull from random emails and facebook. Everyone in my building like our ANC folk and these 'smart' growthers or whatever you call them. Most seem to fight for quality life stuff, less traffic, more local stores, more apartments, more playgrounds, more farmers markets, reopening the theater, etc. You seem to only want power. Keep in mind the condo residents outnumber you single family people and finally realized it. |
The census data show the rapid graying of most of the single family detached blocks in CP. Sure there are a few younger folks, but there are fewer and fewer of them. Honestly, if I was a young NIMBY I would never buy in CP, McLean, CCMD and Potomac have much better options. I mean you are living between two dense corridors (Wisconsin/CT Ave) that only only adding thousands of more apartments over the next few years. You are going to lose and lose badly. Hell even Crestwood or CCDC is better. |

My equity would hard disagree!
I just made sure I got as few overlays as was possible, and have a lawyer on retainer. |
Also no building will ever encroach on me, so enjoy your think we’ll NIMBY ours. And by the way, the grey hairs have children, so you’ll never get hands on our properties without multiples of millions. So, good luck playing City Council, who cares end of the day?! I won’t even bother to vote after the re districting fiasco. Sip a cocktail by my pool instead
