The best sides we've seen are the EDP teams (Pipeline, FC USA, etc.) and they will offer the best competitive atmosphere in matches to supplement the training. I think the coach and club feel that EDP will give us these type of matches every single week, even if we have to drive a little further. CCL and NPL would certainly provide this against a handful of teams, but not every week. The best of those leagues can be sought out at tournaments and friendlies.

Annnnnd this is the Con of EDP.

Which part? The driving? judging the competition too early at U11? Maybe club is not in CCL or NPL.

The judging of the competition at this age. There is variance in any league and EDP would be no different. I believe its biggest Pro is seeing some different clubs for a change.

Shameless Plug warning....Looking for a new team for your 2006 boy? FPYC is holding open practices at Draper Drive Park in Fairfax Dec 8 and Dec 15 (5:30-7). And one indoor session at Green Acres School on Dec 12 (5-7). FPYC United 2006 has two teams and an excellent coach.

why is Arlington so great and Mclean not great? Are you just saying because your kid plays for that club or is there actual reasoning?

Jeff Cup has already sent early acceptances. If your team wasn't in that round, you may not get in. And if you do get in, good luck with hotels.

In what league(s) do these teams play? I see FPYC Barca Juniors Blue in NCSL, and it looks like they'll be D1 or D2 in the spring. Where is the other? I don't see it in NCSL, ODSL or EDP.

Barca Juniors? where do you see that? They have a Blue and a Gold under NCSL U11 Boys. I'm not the OP.

I didn't write that post but we played in the McLean tournament last year and it was good competition. Biggest problem was all the McLean coaches and the kids' parents. Besides so wackos I saw from PA in Bethesda tournament, these parents are the worst as far as yelling at refs and just plain ol yelling and we were in one of the youngest age groups. One of the coaches was an absolute maniac too.

I think the Arlington tournament is more selective in that it gets more applications than it can accept, so it is more competitive.

Ah -- I was looking at the spring standings for some reason. The Barca Juniors team won its division.

You're right -- both FPYC teams are in NCSL and will be playing in the middle divisions in the spring.

Our team is considering one or the other. I know the Arlington had some issues a couple of years back, not to their fault, due to the weather. Taking the 2 weeks later into consideration but not as a main factor. It seems both have a selection process. Does anyone know from experience if any is first come first accepted or do they actually do a review of those accepted.

Competition!

McLean in the area becomes second tier 1st teams and down from there.

Arlington is more selective and the brackets are more evenly distributed.
