FCPS About to Propose Major Boundary Changes?

Anonymous
From the description on the FCPS web site (the actual materials haven't yet been posted), FCPS Staff intends to propose major boundary changes at an upcoming November 15th session.

I'm very skeptical about this, since FCPS projections historically have been incredibly inaccurate. And I have no idea how they can make boundary decisions without coming to terms first about the future of the incredibly large AAP centers at some schools.

No, that study is done, and no one got reassigned to Falls Church from Oakton. Some of Fairfax did get reassigned to Oakton and other schools (mostly Woodson).

There is an upcoming work session scheduled for November 15th where FCPS facilities staff plans to present recommendations that include potential boundary changes. The materials haven't been posted yet, but from reading the description that was made available it sounds like the recommendations will be based on projections from the spring of 2014 that have already been shown to be wildly off the mark with respect to the fall 2014 enrollments at numerous FCPS schools.

Lets see what comes out of the Nov. 10th presentation on facility needs and student projections first.

Oops, thanks for pointing out this session is scheduled for the 10th, not the 15th.

I heard that LJMS kids that feed into Oakton HS will be reassigned to Thoreau/Kilmer (AAP). Is this true?

Dunno about that. Can't see FCPS sending any more kids to crowded Kilmer, and sending Jackson kids to Thoreau would turn Thoreau into a three-way split feeder (Madison/Oakton/Marshall).

When are the Cooper kids going to move out of Kilmer?

Any buzz about which areas they're looking at?

There is, but it's too depressing to think about. Glad my kid is graduating soon before FCPS guts yet another pyramid.

If you really want to know, tonight's FPAC meeting (Room 5050 at Gatehouse, 7 - 9 P.M.) is open to the public.

I think you mean from McLean to Langley. Langley is projected to be under enrolled and McLean is projected to be over enrolled. I am also guessing that Thoreau and Cooper will move from their current voluntary AAP classes to being AAP Centers for their pyramid to help the over crowding at Kilmer and the projected over crowding at Longfellow. I predict a two year phase in.

Are you sure you don't have it backwards? That would only happen if other kids are getting moved from McLean or Marshall to Langley. Langley is the school that FCPS keeps suggesting is going to lose hundreds of students over the next few years. Of course, their projections are consistently wrong, but that rarely seems to give them pause.

I've heard talk about Keene Mill Elementary having some kids reassinged to Orange Hunt as well.
