Tired of people talking out of their a$$es on this

+1. That's a great thread. I don't love the right wing nut jobs who need a gun to go to the grocery store, but I also don't like the social justice warriors making up facts to suit their narratives. Centrism feels lonely these days.

there’s nothing in that thread that changes the fact of armed and organized white militias showing up at protests against police violence against black people. your centrism is not as clear eyed and clever as you think it is.

There IS video of the guy that got shot first being aggressive and saying “shoot me” to the armed guys who were backing away. He wasn’t protesting he was trying to pick a fight. He is on video being held back from charging the guys with guns. Centrist means that you look at things without bias. You can not support stupid gun nuts while also seeing issues with a man charging at people using fighting words and chasing people while literally asking to get shot.

it’s so funny I’m crying that you believe this interpretation is factual because you are a “centrist.”

Nothing from my post is an “interpretation”. It’s all on video.

I’m just adding this because I felt like this throw away talking point needs more context. Likely this was a Romeo-Juliet romance where he had sexual contact with someone close to his own age (eg, he was 18 and dating someone who was 16).

A lot of states have loosened these laws in recent years, because the charges are so damaging to young people. But in 2002, the old laws were strictly enforced and lives ruined. I’d like to have more context on this particular case.

The other guy shot repeatedly abused his girlfriend. I'm sure it was innocent as well.

I have no empathy for either.

You're not wrong, but that's why you can't let this stuff escalate. You ignore the people setting fires, destroying property, and looting because you want to respect the rights of the protesters; it becomes awfully tough to put the genie back in the bottle before the situation escalates to vigilantism like Rittenhouse or his fellow travelers. That's why you enforce content-neutral time, place, and manner restrictions on the protesters in the first place.

Party of law and order folks! Some child with an illegal AR-15 can come and shoot willy nilly and if he happens to get someone whose background smells a little funny to you, YAHOO!

Seems like that'll appeal to white women like me who are desperate for some calm, for a while. Yep, I'm super excited for all your little AR-17 teens to show up in my neighborhood while you cheer them on and offer to pay their bail.

DP here. The interpretation isn't correct because it is centrist. It's the interpretation that is most consistent with the facts as we have them. All of the other interpretations are relying on inferences about his politics or why he was there in the first place.

Well, we see this differently. And either way, I can tell you that like hell I want someone like Trump or his blood-thirsty supporters egging someone like this on.

He had an illegal gun. He was out past curfew. His classmates say they thought he'd shoot up a school one day. And here you are saying this kid is a hero, and we need more kids like this one, and send them into our neighborhoods - and no thanks.

You people are nuts.

Oh no: his arrest document lists him as Hispanic. Head's exploding!

I guess he'll be a "white hispanic" like Zimmerman.

Nuts is when you falsely quote me as saying he is a hero etc. when I have done nothing of the sort and I have actually posted against gun nuts like him. Honesty is the only way kit of this mess that this country is in. Truth should be more important than boosting your chosen team.

DP:
It’s on Twitter. A few of his high school classmates have chimed in on some the twitter threads with trending videos of the incident. He ticked all the school shooter boxes: obsessed with guns, antagonistic, socially aloof and awkward, a bit of a loner, etc.

More often than not, the people setting fires, looting and shooting people are the right wing extremists.

Hopefully we can separate the truth from the tribal narratives.

It’s not “all on video.” There is no video showing what led up to the chase and first shooting.
