BYU is a decent opponent, but USC v. Notre Dame garnered truly national interest.
Agree that when Notre Dame has the guts & stamina to compete as a member of the Big Ten Conference or SEC, then ND football will be respected more than it is now. As for those who apply to the University of Notre Dame, it is a bit cultish for most 18 & 19 year olds. For those who desire a fairly strict Catholic environment, the University of Notre Dame is a great option, but not so for the typical Top 10 National University student. (Not sure where Notre Dame is ranked, but it isn't Top 10, but should be in the Top 25). |

The CFP needs to expand to 16 teams as several worthy schools missed out this year in order to include two schools from the Group of Five.
Vanderbilt, University of Texas, Notre Dame, and BYU should all have been included in a 16 team CFP. In my view, all four teams were better than Tulane & JMU. Desire Notre Dame football's childish reaction to not making the 12 team CFP, I would have enjoyed watching Notre Dame try to compete with the best teams in college football. ND can rise to the occasion on a single date in an otherwise weak schedule, but doubtful that ND football could beat 2 top 12 teams in consecutive games. |

Just checked the US News 2026 rankings:
Notre Dame is ranked at #20 in a tie with the University of Michigan & with CMU (Carnegie Mellon University). Very impressive. Not sure that I buy that Notre Dame academics are equal to U Michigan & to CMU, but still quite impressed by the high ranking. |
Right. You wrote that, then you responded to yourself, because that's what you've been doing for weeks and it's really odd. |
How funny you forget that earlier this year ND played in the championship game against Ohio State. To get there, they beat Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State. |
Good point. Didn't forget, just didn't think about it. Notre Dame's greed and superiority complex is getting tiresome. Everyone was willing to tolerate this holier than thou attitude and to make special accommodations for Notre Dame football because ND football draws crowds which generate revenue. However, the temper tantrums by the ND AD after ND football did not make the CFP, followed by criticizing U Miami & U Alabama, then childishly refusing to play BYU in a post-season bowl game was too much for most to accept. |

Love the irony of Notre Dame's football team refusing to play BYU in the Pop Tarts Bowl game, but then bragging about replacing USC with BYU as a regular season opponent.
And, FWIW, USC refused to continue the annual game against Notre Dame due to its demanding Big Ten Conference schedule. I would have enjoyed seeing USC play Notre Dame each year, but the Big Ten Conference and the SEC are requiring members to schedule more conference opponents as each conference expands. |
| Also, there is speculation that the Big Ten Conference and the SEC could each expand to 24 teams and self regulate; this would result in leaving the NCAA for football and establishing their own National Championship tournament between just the SEC & the Big Ten Conference. |
I completely disagree. No need to expand to let the 4th or 5th place Big 10 or SEC teams in. I don't really care that some think that some teams that were left out were better that Tulane and JMU. We're talking about 2 and 3 loss teams. Want to be in the playoffs? Win more games. Yes, it's possible the Group of 5 teams will lose badly in the playoffs. So what? Let's not forget that last year, a Big 10 team lost by 20, an SEC team lost by 25, and an ACC team lost by 28. I'd much rather have the chance of a fantastic upset than watch a mid-level SEC team get hammered by the same margin as a Group of 5 champion. |

Notre Dame Continues to lose a lot of players in the portal.

| Sucks to be ND. They have become irrelevant |
Nice try. |
Clearly relevant because here you are posting about them.

Just wait and see what ND does with the transfer portal this year. They are pissed and have a lot of money. Bad combination for their opponents. |
