If not that’s a major marketing fail.

Oh sh!t, the jam!! LMAO

LOL I KNOW! Smart marketing is so funny

Relax, Duchess.

No really, LMAO, she's using traditional marketing, including a product tie-in that's thematically linked to a TV show she's putting out, LOL. IT'S TOO FUNNY.

If only I were a duchess. I too could be living out in Montecito instead of freezing here in DC-land.

The bolded is the subtext to most of the Meghan criticism. It's sour grapes from people who are mad Meghan has what they want. And then anger at the way she chooses to live her life, and certainty that if it were them, they would do it better.

But unless any of you were dating Harry when he met Meghan, she didn't take your life. It's her life, she can do what she wants.

I'm not sure why you think that. It's not it.

Oooh, hit a nerve huh?

DP. You sound like a teenager who thinks every girl is envious of her. I no more want her life than Melania Trump's.

Girl, the things I would do to get to stream Melania Who Gives A Fook About Christmas? Trump doing her very best “dead wife in every movie” impression to Do You Believe in Magic. The things I would do. But no, Melania is afflicted with a perverse integrity where she would never.

You drunk, girl? No judgement. Wish I was too.

Stone-cold sober, and cursed with being observant. I would love to have the peace of mind of the typical single-celled Meghan fan.

Guys guys guys what kind of tips will season 2 bring? This is gonna be a hit!

Yikes just saw her dad is moving to Thailand. According to his son, he’s, um, been there before. Exciting year for the whole family!

Maybe on hold so she can hold up the jam on the show with a phone number flashing on the bottom of the screen for an exclusive chance to purchase: buy one jam get three free and all are signed by Meghan herself.

Next stop, QVC.

Like Trump. I’d choose MMs jam every time.

I am definitely pulling for her and Harry and want to see them happy and healthy wherever they live. I am not a royals fan and could care less about them leaving for California or whatever British people think of her.

I never watched Suits or anything else she was in as an actress.

Meghan comes across to me as the kind of woman who only befriend you if she thinks you have something to offer (you’re richer than her, more connected than her, your family is well known, etc). She wouldn’t give me the time of day because I am just a regular person. I do have a sizable bank account, but I don’t dress like it, act like it, I am “new money” I guess because my DH and I earned it. I’ve encountered people like this multiple times in adulthood (men and women) who just brush over me, ignore me, are rude to me, etc but once they know I may have something to offer them (I have multiple vacation homes, I know so and so person, I might be able to get their kid an internship) they suddenly want to me by friend. To me, she always gives off this vibe. There seems nothing genuine, authentic, relatable I would rather watch Tini on TikTok or a marathon of Barefoot Contessa.

I think she has dropped a lot of friends and I used to think she was kind of a user. But she comes from a broken family (as detailed on this thread) and she may just be clueless about how to resolve conflict. Both her and PH had difficult home lives. I am not surprised they found each other and appear to be unable to make their way in the world despite unthinkable advantages in life.

What unthinkable advantages Meghan had in life?

She is absolutely beautiful, she attended private school, she went to Northwestern and it was paid for by her parents, and she is married to literal royalty. Do you not believe these are advantges?

Her mom is/was a social worker and dad a lighting guy on set. She went to catholic school, the lowest tuition private schools. I believe she had a financial aid package that included work study at Northwestern and scholarships, her parents and her covered whatever remained. She is from UMC background, I don’t see the unthinkable advantages she had. From my observation, she has grit and she is a hardworking.

Her private high school is $24,000 a year. Northwestern University is $90,000 a year. The education alone is deeply privileged. I have no idea what her housing situation was like in high school but I guarantee it wasn’t some slum rental apartment or seedy house.

Yes, it is very privileged. Her dad apparently busted his ass as a director of photography on major productions, including Married with Children and The Young and the Restless. I think he wanted to provide her with things that he could not afford when his other kids were younger.

I am unsure what audience this show will appeal to. Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray both had a loyal following among Baby Boomers who liked to have dinner parties. My dear departed mom loved cooking shows. Since she had a giant 6 bedroom home for entertaining, she was able to execute some of the ideas with big parties. Do Millenials have the money and time for this stuff? I certainly do not, so there's no purpose for me watching Markle make tablescapes and avocado toast in her mansion.

You don’t have people over at all? Based on the promo, to me, it’s more about making everyday moments special. You can do these things to make yourself happy, too. I don’t have fancy dinner parties but I do have other moms and kids over for play dates. Adding raspberries and mint leaves to a cake won’t break the bank - and it’s the kind of thing that makes me feel like i have my act together.

I don't have a lot of people over, and when I do I usually buy stuff because it's easier. I think it's great if people get something out of it. I guess my question is whether people still follow home/cooking gurus with all the faster preparation options, delivery, and Doordash available.

My mom used to watch the Food Network and take notes, but I I don't even know where the Food Network is on my cable lineup. However if someone said Markle had great receipes maybe I would look one up online.

You know who does an amazing job at this? Jennifer Garner. That’s a show I’d watch. I love her short cooking videos.

I’m not a fan of MM and don’t find her relatable at all. So this show will be a pass for me.

Why does she need to be relatable? Please list a cooking how host who's relatable.

Ina Garten

I don't know that I fine Ina relatable. She is very likable but her life is very unlike mine and most of what she does in her kitchen is well beyond my skills.

I listened to an interview with her around Thanksgiving where she described her Thanksgiving dinner and then stated that she makes two full dinners so that she can send all her guests home with a full suite of leftovers so that they can enjoy that the next day. The interviewer was like "are you suggesting other people do that?" and she was like "no of course not, but I'm a professional entertainer -- of course I do things the average home cook is not going to to do." It wasn't relatable but it was honest and she's right -- if she was just ultra-relatable then she probably wouldn't have much to teach anyone. The whole point of people like her and Martha is they are way better and more experienced at all of this than most people and therefore can offer a sort of aspirational vision and some tips and tricks. But can an achieve what Ina does just by watching her show? Of course not. Please.

I’ve made many of Ina’s recipes. I find her execution to be very simple and unpretentious. The olive oil she uses isn’t expensive lol. I also send guests home with leftovers, especially my sister with 3 kids vs my one. All adults now.

My son has become the newest cook in our family. He’s been feeding his college roommates for a while. They pay for the ingredients.

My niece who hosted her 1st xmas requested I make an entree x 2. One included sausage because my nephew is a meat eater, and the other without to pair with her chicken marsala dish. She was overwhelmed when we got there and my son (her cousin) jumped in. They both love to cook and tap recipes from Ina, Martha and Giada, raging Ramsey + GenZ Instagram accounts. Young ones with old souls, I guess.

Its probably cheaper there. He should ask his DD to reimburse him for private school and college costs.

She was homecoming queen at her $24,000 private high school in SoCal. Her dad had a pretty solid UMC career. They lived in a nice house. They traveled abroad. She went to a $90,000 year T20 private college.

Where did this myth come from that she had a harsh upbringing?

Idk but I don't think she sees herself this way. She talks about stuff like doing calligraphy and waitressing on the side while trying to make it as an actress, but she has never talked about struggling while growing up the way some other stars have (like Dolly Parton and Hillary Swank). This "rags to riches" story that some posters keep alluding to didn't come from anything MM has ever said.

When kids are attending schools with wealthier peers, they feel poor in comparison. Not being able to get a BMW for 16th birthday or a Gucci dress for prom and having to settle for a Chevy or a Dillard's dress is harsh to them.

Uh yeah. She pledged KKG. Doesn't seem like she was struggling to pay her tuition bills. Not dissing KKG just pointing out that she had money for it.

A lot of men who move there say it’s because it’s cheaper, yes. He’s already in Mexico which is plenty cheap.

If you’re poor or even middle class “poor” you can’t go to Northwestern and get a bid from rich girl sorority KKG.

She is a full of s*** compulsive liar.

Would you quit baselessly smearing an 80 year old old man you don’t freaking know? Maybe he blew most of his retirement giving his daughter a good life from 0 to age 22? Thailand is very cheap and somewhat safe. The NYT and WSJ have done stories on middle class married retirees moving to these countries.
