Don’t kid yourself. If large-scale mass deportation did happen (and it won’t because the people benefiting from undocumented workers are wealthy donors not MC suburban internet warriors) it would be a generational event and the children of those who supported it would view their parents the way children looked at parents who participated in other atrocities. |
Americans have been blocked from employment in construction for a long time in favor of immigrants. And then they turn around and cry about losing a chunk of their workforce if there are immigration raids. Cry harder. They have put this narrative out for years while being the main manipulators behind the scenes to make it so that illegal immigrants make up a significant part of the workforce. "The high rates of displacement and discouragement stem from a history of union racism and contractor preference for immigrants. As such, the racial demographic in the construction industry is now 60 percent white, 30 percent Hispanic, and 5 percent Black American, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics." https://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rights/4559922-race-the-construction-industry-and-the-francis-scott-key-bridge/ |
Can’t wait for the day I walk past a construction site and all I see is white men at work. |
That doesn’t at all answer the question of why American men don’t presently work in construction. 4% of men over 20 are unemployed— what keeps them from working construction? |
Most Americans aren’t fit enough for jobs requiring physical labor. My ex is Hispanic and works with horses as a groom. He always laughed when his employers hired a non-Hispanic as a groom. Most didn’t last a week. The job is physically taxing and the hours are long. Americans couldn’t hack it. |
"high rates of displacement and discouragement " |
This definitely won't happen. |
No, you said most here illegally in Fairfax work construction. Where is the data for that? Both state and local governments require anyone here to be legally eligible to work. Let's see your data for Fairfax. |
All the pro-deportation folks. I'm curious if you consider those that are here waiting on their court date are breaking the law? |
So…their hurt feelings? You’re telling me American men are all just too… discouraged to work in construction? I’m sorry I don’t buy that for a second. |
Here you go. https://www.pewresearch.org/race-and-ethnicity/2016/11/03/industries-of-unauthorized-immigrant-workers/ Your argument seems to be that Fairfax is special and undocumented workers here work in different industries than the rest of the country? Highly unlikely. As others have stated we don’t have significant agricultural, we do have significant construction, and there’s where the data is. |
+ 1 Also, I would have a much harder time explaining to my kids if one of them was criminally victimized by an undocumented immigrant. https://www.nbcnews.com/investigations/13000-immigrants-convicted-homicide-living-freely-us-ice-data-rcna173125. That's would be tough. As to the rest, we can explain why people here illegally to begin with went home (or were deported if it comes to that). Not sure why so many on DCUM are on the aide of the rule breakers. We have a country; it needs a secure border. We have labor needs; we need to have problems to meet those as well, but lawfully. I don't disagree with those who believe employers should be on the hook as well, but sometimes immigrants present fake documents. |
No, I means Americans are/were actively blocked from employment in construction which you'd know if you read the linked article and cited EEOC report. |
It’s definitely a Reddit/internet position. Posters seem to be overwhelmingly pro- illegal immigration. Most people want a secure border. I have no issues deporting illegal immigrants. If I decided to stay over illegally in say, France, I also wouldn’t be surprised or cry Hitler if France kicked me out. What if 20 million Americans decided to overstay tourist visas in France or enter the country illegally? Would you insist we should be allowed to stay? |
I think some people are against anything and everything Trump supports. The problem is they are often against something but not for anything else, which is why they lost the election. |
