I was at this meeting. The good news it had very low attendance. They are claiming 70 people were there. That number includes the candidates. So out of over 150,000 students in MOCO what percentage is that ? Most of us can do that math.

Bad news is MOCO has Moms4liberty trying to get on the BOE and other ultra-conservative religious hate as well. Yes, hate. And it doesn't matter where one stands on the issues Moms4Liberty and ultra conservative religious input is not something any public school BOE should be striving for.

It was a platform for Moms4liberty.

There was a ton of misinformation spewing from this meeting.

I went to this meeting in good faith. Wanting to hear from all candidates to give them a chance. Given I am not super happy with the current board.

What I found was, one voice was being promoted from the pre-approved questions to the misinformation and terrible behavior by the so-called adults in the room. It wasn't the person who shouted "religious intolerance" that was rude. It was many of the people sitting on the forum, the candidates themselves. Their vitriol was glaring and has no place in a BOE.

The purpose of the meeting was to promote ultra right wing talking points only. The organizer doesn't want anyone to know Moderately Montgomery is not moderate or accepting of any other viewpoints. It is 100% a front for Moms4Liberty.

I do not think Moderately MoCo is a "front" for Moms4Liberty. They are more tolerant of right-wing viewpoints, hence the Moderately in their name, but that does not make them a "front" for Moms4Liberty.

Furthermore, you and the white liberal mafia who have run roughshod over the MCCPTA have yourselves to blame. If you all didn't engage in such obsessive, unhealthy groupthink, and actually practiced the diversity talking points you spew, Moms4Liberty wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

I do think the Moderately Moco Forum was a bust in many ways, mainly because it was painfully amateurish and low attendance as you point out. But not because it's a "front" for Moms4Liberty.

+1 I agree with you, especially about the diversity and group think. There was a graphic on his page, published from another group where all of the minorities have their faces crossed out. I don’t think, I hope, it wasn’t purposeful it was eye-opening to see that the only people that certain powerful groups, agree with are white voices who claim to speak for minorities. All of the brown and Muslim and Hispanic candidates were Xed out and that was disappointing to see.
I am going to watch the forum when he publishes it.

Please watch our forum! Super pumped to have so many in attendance for our first ever in person event.

I absolutely posted that graphic to open peoples eyes to the vitriol of that group of really nasty people who do this each election cycle to anyone that doesn’t go along 100% with their point of views and have been repeatedly attacked (and then blocked and continued to be talked about) by them. It was in no way to support the graphic.

Thanks,
Jason (founder Moderately MOCO)

No Jason that is not true.

You are a right wing moms4liberty supporter.

I was there at the forum.

You only presented one side.

You called anyone who disagreed "dissenters".

That "forum" was to gaslight and fearmonger. It was a set up to go after the current BOE and they were frightened by the crowd. Mandel lied and treated Harris horribly. Harris was smart enough to not engage and get the crowd even more insane. I am not a Harris fan but that exchange was ridiculous.

One thing I will give you is the moderator was very nice.

You gave Moms4liberity a platform. You let them speak. There were 3 questions allowed and you know why you picked Moms4liberty to speak. You know exactly why you picked the questions you did.

It was a right wing night to spew misinformation and Moderately Montgomery is not moderate given it only gave a voice to the ultra right wing, spare us your lies.

Were they supposed to ban audience members from asking questions? Also, how is Jason responsible for Mandel's behavior?

I was there too. I wish there was a media outlet that was truly aimed at moderates living in Montgomery County. Moderately MoCo isn't it. Whatever the founder of Moderately MoCo intended, his brand has been taken over by right-wing true believers. It was depressing to see shrill misinformation boosted at that forum.

It is interesting how many people keep claiming to have been at this forum while simultaneously saying it was only right wing people in attendance… either it’s the same people posting and pretending to be different people, or it’s just not true. Maybe both.

Check our posts and our record and view the forum - that speaks louder than the haters.

This is another thing they do which is to try to derail conversation about the BOE and instead try to discuss our page and how it’s somehow evil.

I’m not running for office nor do I intend to. Don’t get distracted when they try to shut down the conversation like this.

Look at the video that crowd was not diverse. The BOE candidates were but not the crowd.

In attendance were a bunch of old white people and a handful of Asian families (all from Darnestown all with same signs about Autism).

A forum that allows Moms4liberty to speak is spreading misinformation and lies.

What in the world could a Moms4Liberty candidate do for MOCO schools? Mandel is funded by outside sources you think that is good for MCPS? What are her credentials besides being a homeschool mother never ever had her children in MCPS and speaker at Moms4liberty events?

This so called Forum should open everyone's eyes to the hate that Moms4Liberty and ultra-right-wing candidates are trying to bring to MCPS> Religion in schools, book banning, dumbing down of education etc

There is no reality that this forum was anything but a push for an ultra-right-wing agenda.

There were actually 4 questions. The only one I pre screened and knew about ahead of time was the Darnestown Autism program we had talked beforehand and I said her question was too specific for the general questions and I’d try to allow her a question.

I didn’t know who the M4L person was before she asked her question - but I’m sure you will assume otherwise just like you’ve done with lots of other assumptions. There were dozens of hands raised at that point and I picked the one that kept going up first. And she didn’t ask a divisive question either (though I was concerned when she said who she was with the perception that could create), she asked about improving reading and writing.

What is your real issue with me and our forum? Just come out and say why you dislike me so much without using lies.

He is not responsible for Mandel's behavior at all. She is an adult and responsible for herself.

Jason is disingenuous at best. He called anyone who did not agree with right-wing intolerance "dissenters". On Twitter, Jason removed posts that disagreed with him being moderate. That is not being "moderate". He could have had a conversation, he doesn't want to.

On Next Door he called the characterization of the meeting "misinformation" and he showed his hand when asked what was "misinformation" he did the same thing all right-wingers do he deflected and blamed the vitriol on the few dissenters that is not a give and take, nor moderate.

It is fair to say the forum four members of the audience to speak. However given the chairperson of Moms4liberty was one of them give me a break that not was preplanned. Out of his claim of 70 people in attendance (exaggerated that includes the candidates), he just happens to pick her? Want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge?

The audience who spoke:
Moms4liberty, a right wing ultra conservative, a parent of the Darnestown Crowd, and one other which was a perfectly fine middle of the road question. Sure one could kind of say all sides were given time, however if a liberal had spoken that night I think it would have gotten heated.

The meeting was all about a right wing agenda for MCPS. That was the purpose there was no reality it was not.

I am not liberal I am independent. I went in good faith and now I am glad I did.

I am also in agreement MCPS needs change.

We all have opinions. I am not in any way saying Moms4lLiberty of MOCO did not have a right to be there. Free Speech is for everyone.

Jason doesn't get to control what we think after leaving an event. He absolutely can come and say his group is Moderate however Moms4liberty support says otherwise loud and clear.

You can think whatever you want. However when you continue to lie about things you’ll be challenged. Clearly you’re the same person that has been posting about going to the event in bad faith for weeks and commenting on all of our posts before and after and now trying to pretend otherwise. Maybe I should start posting all the receipts?

Or we could get back to the actual topic - the candidates. Personally and on my page I have decided not to endorse anyone in the primary so I’m very interested in what rational moderate people are thinking?

There’s a clear divide I think into more than just the 3 camps previously mentioned. Some may not want to vote for incumbents and/or the apple ballot. There are pretty clear differences between all of the candidates and what they bring to the table.

Helpful for us clueless voters.

In MoCo "moderate" is right wing.

Let's stop talking about you, then.

Were the 3 incumbents (Evans, Smodrowski, Harris), who are up for re-election this year, on the MCEA teacher's union Apple Ballot in 2020? Just trying to figure out if the mcea apple ballot is something we can rely on when choosing this time around.

No, in 2020 the Apple Ballot only endorsed one candidate, Sunil Dasgupta, who lost to Lynne Harris.
