No. None of them were on the Apple Ballot in 2020. The Apple Ballot endorsed Harris's opponent and didn't make an endorsement in Evans's and Smondrowski's races. |
Correct. However MCEA endorsed both Evans and Smondrowski in 2016 (https://moco360.media/2016/06/02/teachers-union-announces-endorsements-in-board-of-education-races/). This year, SEIU local 500 is endorsing all 4 incumbents (https://montgomeryperspective.com/2024/04/17/seiu-local-500-endorses-school-board-incumbents/) |
^^ Interesting about whom they didn't endorse in 2020 nor this time. |
Isn't it 3 incumbents. Who is the 4th SEIU local 500 is endorsing? |
There are only three incumbents running. |
Out with the old in with the new. |
Yes, that's what the Apple Ballot is endorsing. |
Do we have information on how each of the incumbents (and other four members not up for re-election) "voted" in firing McKnight? Does it matter? |
No we don't. |
See below comments about Evans and Harris, from another now locked thread, 4/7 16:19 wrote. "I attended the community event around Oak View ES losing Title I status and some of the candidates/incumbents were in attendance. Notably absent was Shebra Evans, who is the representative for District 4 where OVES is located. Given how badly the Central Office handled this situation, how frustrated the community is with the loss of funding, and the impact on the school community of losing more than $400K in funding next year, it was actually pretty surprising not to see her. Of the Board of Education folks who spoke at the event, Silvestre was the most impressive. I haven't always been her biggest fan but she handled a difficult situation very well. Most disappointing was Lynne Harris. I agree with her on almost everything, but she seems really disinclined to hold Central Office accountable for their errors. I have no idea why - whether it's some Nice White Lady fear of conflict, or just an impulse to protect those who actually already have all of the power, but it was disappointing." Latest updates on Smondrowski? |
2024 BOE candidates. On May 14, the top 2 from each group (At-Large, District 2, District 4) will advance to the general election in November. Everyone votes for one from each category, regardless of your party affiliation and where you live in Montgomery County.
At Large candidates: Harris (incumbent) Hidayat Kim Long - hasn't been seen since filing Mofor Montoya District 2 candidates: Diaz Mui Smondrowski (incumbent) Thioye Zimmerman District 4 candidates: Evans (incumbent) Mandel Stewart |
Another "good-old-days" comment. MCPS is a massive school system with a very diverse population. The recent school board forum was all "put more police in the schools" "lock everyone up who disobeys" and "too much pot in the schools". Are none of the current candidates old enough to remember the 80s? We did all that and had that smell. none of the "law and order" items fixed anything other than creating a group of youth who became unemployable for life. |
What happened to Laura Stewart? She’s been MIA at the in-person forums and her social media is quiet other than a lonely tweet about her endorsements. |
Don't know if they are shills but it was interesting that the first two questions in the Rockville form came from Moms4Liberty. The "do you rate parents first" is right out of the "opt out" playbook. |
