My current thinking:
At large: I’m leaning toward Montoya but I want to learn more about Kim. I think Lynne Harris is a well-meaning person but I think her priorities that she fights for (Environment, LGBTQ, Vocational programs) are just not as critically important as the priorities that I’d want her to fight for (academic excellence, school safety, transparency). I’ve been disappointed that any time anyone testifies about things important to me and my family, she doesn’t ask follow up questions or request changes. I just don’t feel she represents me.

D2: I actually have been impressed by Smondrowski and feel she has been an advocate for priorities I think are important. I don’t know enough about Zimmerman so I’d like to learn more about her because I would consider her.

D4: I will be voting for Stewart in this race. I don’t know that I align in every way with her, but I think she is an honest and trustworthy candidate who will work hard on the board. The other two candidates are just absolutely not ok for me, one of which I’ve met in real life and has a Lauren Boebert/Marjorie Taylor Green kind of persona.

I was at this meeting. The good news it had very low attendance. They are claiming 70 people were there. That number includes the candidates. So out of over 150,000 students in MOCO what percentage is that ? Most of us can do that math.

Bad news is MOCO has Moms4liberty trying to get on the BOE and other ultra-conservative religious hate as well. Yes, hate. And it doesn't matter where one stands on the issues Moms4Liberty and ultra conservative religious input is not something any public school BOE should be striving for.

It was a platform for Moms4liberty.

There was a ton of misinformation spewing from this meeting.

I went to this meeting in good faith. Wanting to hear from all candidates to give them a chance. Given I am not super happy with the current board.

What I found was, one voice was being promoted from the pre-approved questions to the misinformation and terrible behavior by the so-called adults in the room. It wasn't the person who shouted "religious intolerance" that was rude. It was many of the people sitting on the forum, the candidates themselves. Their vitriol was glaring and has no place in a BOE.

The purpose of the meeting was to promote ultra right wing talking points only. The organizer doesn't want anyone to know Moderately Montgomery is not moderate or accepting of any other viewpoints. It is 100% a front for Moms4Liberty.

I do not think Moderately MoCo is a "front" for Moms4Liberty. They are more tolerant of right-wing viewpoints, hence the Moderately in their name, but that does not make them a "front" for Moms4Liberty.

Furthermore, you and the white liberal mafia who have run roughshod over the MCCPTA have yourselves to blame. If you all didn't engage in such obsessive, unhealthy groupthink, and actually practiced the diversity talking points you spew, Moms4Liberty wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

I do think the Moderately Moco Forum was a bust in many ways, mainly because it was painfully amateurish and low attendance as you point out. But not because it's a "front" for Moms4Liberty.

You were not there I was.

Moms4liberty was there in mass. The whole middle section facing the candidates and the whole left side as well Moms4Liberty, I sat with them. I rode in an elevator with a few of them they wore pins. Tiny but pins.

This forum was for one thing only to spread right-wing misinformation about the board.

You don't know me I went there in good faith. Instead, it was a creepy gross fear-mongering of our schools.

Last night on Twitter and Next Door the organizer said it out loud. He then took down any posts referencing right wing criticism of the forum. Why would he do that if he is on the up and up?

Moderately MOCO is lying they have a single mission and it is to put Moms4liberty on the BOE. That was and is abundantly clear.

I also said upfront I am not a Harris fan. I will not support hate, moms4liberty or right wing nonsense for public schools. Does not make me a "liberal" it makes me well informed, intelligent and a good human. Unlike what Moderatley Montgomery is promoting. Independent thought is a good thing.

And whether it is Moms4Liberty or Right Wing Ultra Conservatives neither belong on a BOE.

Thanks for speaking out about this. We need to be vigilant as right wing fringe candidates try to infiltrate our school board.

Again: I said that Moderately MoCo engages and is tolerant of right-wing viewpoints. Therefore, because they're not summarily dismissed as they are in other spaces, Moms4Liberty is flocking to it as a platform.

That does not mean the media outlet and Jason himself are "fronts" for Moms4Liberty. You're basing that on posts you say that were since deleted that Jason made on NextDoor, which is more substantive in backing your claim that he is a Moms4Liberty shill. But since I can't see the posts that have been deleted, I'm not yet convinced he's a shill for them.

+1 I agree with you, especially about the diversity and group think. There was a graphic on his page, published from another group where all of the minorities have their faces crossed out. I don’t think, I hope, it wasn’t purposeful it was eye-opening to see that the only people that certain powerful groups, agree with are white voices who claim to speak for minorities. All of the brown and Muslim and Hispanic candidates were Xed out and that was disappointing to see.
I am going to watch the forum when he publishes it.

Please watch our forum! Super pumped to have so many in attendance for our first ever in person event.

I absolutely posted that graphic to open peoples eyes to the vitriol of that group of really nasty people who do this each election cycle to anyone that doesn’t go along 100% with their point of views and have been repeatedly attacked (and then blocked and continued to be talked about) by them. It was in no way to support the graphic.

Thanks,
Jason (founder Moderately MOCO)

This person has been building up this same nonsense for weeks posting about going to and disrupting our forum (which they tried to do but our excellent moderator shut it down).

And then they have continued to spew lies about our forum because they’re not tolerant of any viewpoint but their own. They have been spamming these comments across social media and this forum - I would wager a good portion of the comments in this post come from the same individual.

On the next door post, I acknowledged that there were a handful of M4L people in attendance at the event. It’s absolutely a lie that the vast majority or 70% (which she posted on next door) were M4L. We pushed the forum across all social media and had a wide array of people there including extreme progressives and let them stay even after trying to disrupt it.

After responding to this and realizing this person is not discussing in good faith and would continue to lie and spam my posts, I blocked her - the messages were not deleted she just can’t see them.

Please view the forum for yourself and decide what you think and get to know more about the candidates. It was an incredible event I just wish more of the candidates were in attendance.

I was there too. I wish there was a media outlet that was truly aimed at moderates living in Montgomery County. Moderately MoCo isn't it. Whatever the founder of Moderately MoCo intended, his brand has been taken over by right-wing true believers. It was depressing to see shrill misinformation boosted at that forum.

It is interesting how many people keep claiming to have been at this forum while simultaneously saying it was only right wing people in attendance… either it’s the same people posting and pretending to be different people, or it’s just not true. Maybe both.

Check our posts and our record and view the forum - that speaks louder than the haters.

This is another thing they do which is to try to derail conversation about the BOE and instead try to discuss our page and how it’s somehow evil.

I’m not running for office nor do I intend to. Don’t get distracted when they try to shut down the conversation like this.

I don't know the random person who posted that graphic, and I think it was wrong-headed and ugly. However, the bolded just isn't true. Montoya wasn't crossed out. Mui wasn't crossed out. Again, I don't agree with the decision to create a graphic with *anyone's* names crossed out, but at least let's have a discussion based on facts and that doesn't include AAPI erasure.
