After all the drama, Big3 college admissions are really as strong as ever this year

Wow. They are kids.

Funny. All of my DC’s friends who are in public school all have therapists, too. It is the sad sad state of the world.

Both of my children attend a Big 3 school and they’re not in therapy, nor do they need therapy. They both chose to attend their current high school.

Do you honestly believe that many/most children at highly selective DC private schools are in therapy?!? If so, you need a wider circle of friends and acquaintances.

Np here. My girl goes to Holton and at least one-third of the girls go to weekly therapy. It is a stressful environment academically and socially

I am a therapist in private practice. The majority of my clients are kids at the DC Top 3 schools. (anxiety, eating disorders, and depression)

Have you noticed that more come from SS schools than coed? I’ve always thought that SS girls schools especially can be awful socially for a lot of girls

Ooo let’s hope this “therapist” can prove your theory right by outing her “patients” even further. Super professional.

From what I can tell:
20% Ivies
10% U of Chicago
10% other top 20 universities
10% top 10 liberal arts colleges
Etc.
That is 50% of the class into TOP20 colleges/universities. Minimum.

Even with the deflated GPAs (well under 4.0), almost no APs, etc.

STA is similar.
Sidwell has pretty much gotten the entire class in top50 schools.
GDS is a bit uneven.

I know that people on DCUM love to hate Sidwell, but I think that their 2023 grads had the best overall college placement among DC Metro privates. Over 80% of the class has posted on Instagram, and the vast majority are heading to top 50 universities and SLACs or better.

I’m not a Sidwell parent or alum but credit should be given where credit is deserved (to the students and their parents).

Not sure how your statement squares with the original post. I counted 35 kids out of 102 on the Sidwell page attending a school outside the Top 50 National (or Top 20 SLACs)...34%.

If you went back 10 years, I bet nearly 100% were attending a top 50 school.

No.

There are nearly 4,000 accredited 4-year colleges in the United States. I said “…the vast majority are heading to top 50 universities and SLACs or better.” That means the top 50 universities AND the top 50 SLACs. According to my definition, 79/102 students are heading to top 50 universities and SLACs. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of student posts is objectively “the vast majority.”

Stop trying to manipulate my words to suit your agenda. Don’t try to debate me on the parameters I use to measure colleges.
I said top 50 and I mean top 50.

^ Healthy Perspective:

These top 100 colleges and universities (“top 50 universities and top 50 SLACs”) represent just 0.025% of all accredited 4-year colleges and universities in the United States.

You all are funny getting so twisted up on this. No wonder your kids are in therapy.

The rankings that some institution complains about every year. That’s how you know these are the rankings of record.

Oh, those rankings. The ones they are tweaking now to respond to the popular tides? The ones colleges and graduate schools are beginning to boycott?

Mmm hmm.

Let's put this to bed. Smart kids who have resourceful parents, a few tutors and now obviously therapists will go to a top 50 school from public, private and home school. This has been the truth since the beginning to DCUM. Private parents pay for what they feel like is "better". Outcomes are very similar. Everyone gets what they want, and some do it for free. And some do it for status. Jeff please close this.

That is so sad and telling that you think a kid being in therapy is a bad thing. Some parents prefer to make sure their kids have lots of tools to deal with things. But by your post I know exactly what kind of a person you are.

Yes, the rankings those same colleges tout on their websites and in fundraising letters when they move up the list (or maintain a top ranking). The rankings those same colleges try to game to improve their standing.

Those rankings.

Lol—please! Everyone doesn’t get what they want and all dogs don’t go to heaven.
