After all the drama, Big3 college admissions are really as strong as ever this year

From what I can tell:
20% Ivies
10% U of Chicago
10% other top 20 universities
10% top 10 liberal arts colleges
Etc.
That is 50% of the class into TOP20 colleges/universities. Minimum.

Even with the deflated GPAs (well under 4.0), almost no APs, etc.

STA is similar.
Sidwell has pretty much gotten the entire class in top50 schools.
GDS is a bit uneven.

Eh.. No better than a W public. Kinda disappointing this year..

No, at least one of the Big 3 schools had noticeably better outcomes than all of the W schools.

I know that people on DCUM love to hate Sidwell, but I think that their 2023 grads had the best overall college placement among DC Metro privates. Over 80% of the class has posted on Instagram, and the vast majority are heading to top 50 universities and SLACs or better.

I’m not a Sidwell parent or alum but credit should be given where credit is deserved (to the students and their parents).

Not sure how your statement squares with the original post. I counted 35 kids out of 102 on the Sidwell page attending a school outside the Top 50 National (or Top 20 SLACs)...34%.

If you went back 10 years, I bet nearly 100% were attending a top 50 school.

No.

There are nearly 4,000 accredited 4-year colleges in the United States. I said “…the vast majority are heading to top 50 universities and SLACs or better.” That means the top 50 universities AND the top 50 SLACs. According to my definition, 79/102 students are heading to top 50 universities and SLACs. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of student posts is objectively “the vast majority.”

Stop trying to manipulate my words to suit your agenda. Don’t try to debate me on the parameters I use to measure colleges.
I said top 50 and I mean top 50.

So, using your scale, NCS has 78% of the class attending top 100, Maret has 86% and STA is likely 80%+. So, again your conclusions are flawed...but sure, you have no dog in this fight promoting Sidwell.

Also, your 4,000 accredited colleges includes community colleges, cosmetology schools, etc. Of the 4,000 schools, roughly 3700 have acceptance rates above 75%.

I will repeat, go back 10 years and NCS, Sidwell, etc. would have 100% acceptance rates for the top 100 schools (excluding a talented athlete that may pick say LSU for basketball as an example). This why parents are concerned.

Please show us where on a HYPS website or fundraising letter these rankings get touted. I've attended two of these schools and never seen it happen.

I never said that every college advertises its USNRW ranking. There are very few statements that apply to 100% of cases 100% of the time.

My statement still stands. Many colleges brag about their ranking in internal and/or external communications.

I don’t have a dog in this fight. I used Sidwell as an example because:

1. STA hasn’t posted its results and it’s a single gender school;
2. NCS is a single gender school (a coed example provides an easier comparison to other private and public schools); and
3. Maret was not mentioned in the OP and it’s generally not considered a Big 3 school.

So how many accredited 4-year colleges are there today? No matter the number, I guarantee you the top 50 universities and top 50 SLACs are less than 1% of the total. That is the very definition of elite.

Move on with your day. There’s nothing further to argue about here.

You sound lazy, but I have a sliver of time to spare today. A quick (non-exhaustive) Google search yields the following results:

Now what?!?

I see that you have no comment when the receipts are posted.

Now wipe the spittle from your computer screen and accept the fact that *SOME* top colleges try to use these rankings to their advantage (even while pretending to hold their noses).

One of the reasons Harvard probably doesn’t advertise their US News ranking is because Princeton keeps taking the #1 spot. Bwahahahaha!
