Yep .. the government is admitting it’s a Ponzi scheme and you either won’t get paid back or will get paid back with practically worthless paper compared to what you invested |
|
I thought I couldn’t be surprised anymore but the stupidity on display by the republicans in Congress is startling! Almost like they have no idea how anything works.
I am not totally panicking yet, but are they really going to tank things … out of ignorance? |
This was all caused by republicans tax cuts. All the republicans have to do is admit they failed and roll back the tax cut. Now the debt ceiling is not about future spending it is about what has already been spent. So time to increase taxes specially in the red states. |
Discretionary spending is such a small part of the budget - cutting any of it won't make a difference. It is the GOP tax cuts that were totally unfunded that blew up our debt and deficit spending. Undo the tax cuts and have particularly the 1% pay their proportionate share of taxes and most of the problem would be solved. The fact is, GOP presidents tank the economy and blow our debt all while claiming fiscal restraint. it is one of the most effective gaslighting tactics of the past 40 years. |
To be fair, they aren't "conservatives" either - actual conservatives would never do this. |
It's not a Ponzi scheme unless you regard the nation's GDP as illusory. |
No, it will not save money, it will cause interest rates to spike making EVERYTHING more expensive. It will also put millions of out work. |
I'd say more malice than ignorance. But, in fairness, it could be both. |
One party has passed bills that have a funding mechanism, and it wasn't the republicans. What was their offset to pay for the tax cuts, either in 2001 or 2017? I'll wait here for the answer. |
4 trillion in current tax revenues is sufficient. Debt service is only 600 billion, easily paid for. Figure out how to balance the budget without destroying the currency. |
| What do republicans want? Notice they’re not talking about it because they know how deeply unpopular it all is. |
DoD + Va is 1 trillion, Social Security is $800 million, Medicare is $1.7, add in the debt service and you're at $4 trillion without any other spending. |
DoD is ripe for cuts |
