Glorious video of unmasked Youngkin being yelled at by constituent in grocery store

“The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Health Department (AHD) strongly urge everyone help end the pandemic by wearing a mask over both your nose and mouth, washing your hands frequently, and getting vaccinated. Approximately 1 in 20 Alexandrians who have tested positive for COVID-19 have required hospitalization, so without these critical steps, additional lives may be at risk. Your neighbors and loved ones are counting on you to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Alexandria is currently is “high transmission” red zone. In fact, it’s more than 5x over the lower limit of high transmission.

Safeway policy is to require masks for everyone in areas of high transmission.

Screw Youngkin. Like Boris Johnson, he’s ignoring the rules the rest of us follow. Asshole.

Do you think that using profanity makes you sound smarter? News flash, it doesn’t.

Mask mandates were not costing people their means of sustenance. And I will not prioritize your lack of resilience over someone else’s life.

They were just the icing on the cake. Let’s not forget school closures, job loss, financial struggles, social isolation, etc. Just like you breathlessly proclaiming how “self centered” you learned everyone was, we also learned how completely awful and dismissive your kind was towards the hardships others faced these past 2 years. Job loss, virtual schooling, suicides, etc. All you see is Covid, when it became so much more than that. But you obviously don’t see it that way because you probably didn’t have the same experiences others did. I genuinely don’t understand the way your brain works. I wonder if you’re a troll after all this time because you’re practically a caricature of the worst kind of Covid enforcer.

How has a mask prevented you from providing for your family?

Ahh, the drama llama of the anti-masker. Masks didn’t cause people to lose their jobs. Virtual learning didn’t cause suicide but it may have prevented school shootings.

Funny how virtual learning was sooo bad (and I know kids who thrived with it and those who struggled) and yet almost every parent who suddenly became a teleworker never want to go back to the office. In the long run it wasn’t the worst thing that kids got a little glimpse of their future working life.

All of that said, your selfishness lies in the fact that Covid was devastating for 900,000 Americans and their families but you were unconvinced by it. I’m sorry you had to wear a mask.

The end of masks is afoot.

We all welcome ending masks but only if done safely. But just because mandates are beginning to be lifted does that mean past behavior is excused, forgotten or forgiven.

People exposed how self centered they truly are.

Oh, goodness. That cross you have to bear must be so weighty! God, what an idiotic comment. No one cares who/what you excuse, forget, or forgive. No one.

We know you don’t care, you have demonstrated that for two years

The phrase “changing science” is why ordinary thinking people have started to become skeptical of science.

Science is supposed to be fact. If something isn’t based on facts, then it’s not science. Saying “it’s the best science we have at the time” is pathetic. Science is binary. Something either is, or it isn’t. It doesn’t change. Anything that doesn’t fit into those two boxes isn’t science.

The greatest tragedy of this entire stupid pandemic is the damage done to the credibility and reputation of ACTUAL science. There’s now at least a couple generations who will forever be skeptical of “the science” because of idiots like that.

This is someone who obviously doesn't get science. Or thinks of science as a kindergartener would.

DP

Please explain to all of us what you think the word “science” means.

Because I think “science” means the objective study of things around us that starts with a hypothesis, undergoes testing via scientific methods, and yields an answer that is a verifiable and repeatable fact.

That’s science to me. I don’t think science “evolves” as the mood of the public and political polls change.

Let's go with wikipedia: "a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe." It doesn't say anything about "binary" or "is or isn't" or "doesn't change".

Can you tell us what a "verifiable and repeatable fact" means? Is this binary?

Why did you put quotes are evolve? Do you think science gets better as more information is gathered?

Just to follow up on this, I don't think it's reasonable to expect science to provide you with a specific binary, yes/no, is/isn't answer. Under very controlled conditions, science can get pretty close to a deterministic answer. For systems as complex as virus transmission and health effects, there is always some uncertainty.

The problem I see is that politicians, seems like conservatives do it most, point to this uncertainty to cast doubt on all of the science and throw their hands up and say "who knows?" The conservative rubes want a clear yes/no and go with the "answers" that Fox News and conservative media feed them.

Yet many of us wore our masks when mandated and got vaccinated. I can’t help it that you’ve decided to invent your own parameters for what is morally good, beyond what is reasonable and necessary. I could invent my own parameters for goodness and scream at you about how lacking you are, but that would be crazy. You don’t seem to realize that.

And by the way, not everyone had the chance to telework and happily manage their kids’ online school. It’s blindingly clear you got to ride out Covid in comfort. Others did not. But their struggles don’t matter to you. However, they made the choices they had to, and I doubt they give any cares whatsoever to what some sanctimonious online nobody thinks.

The sad part is that masks HAD to be mandated. A healthy, literate society could see a health recommendation and simply follow it without needing to be told to do so. But then again we can’t count on people to make smart choices, that is why we have seatbelt laws.

Almost a million people DIED PP. Not missed work or couldn't telework or had to deal with virtual schooling or wearing masks.......they are DEAD. As in not coming back. WTF is wrong with you?

+1. Excellent display of privilege. What about the families who don’t have laptops, internet, or child care to ensure their kids attend virtual school? The single parents who have to work (at home or in person) and can’t get their six year old to pay attention to an online class? What about the kids who don’t get a warm meal or a meal at all if they’re not in school? And before you shriek at me that I dont care about them anyway, that’s not answering my question. We participated in many food drives and food collection and bagging events that support these communities, and have given money to our local PTA food bank. Stop acting like virtual school was a minor inconvenience and kids were barely affected.
