Ordain Women - Mormon women in the priesthood

Anonymous
I'm an atheist (full-disclosure : raised in UT, non-Mormon) but I've been reading this blog, and following the "Ordain-women" movement, and I think these women deserve the support of all feminists. Change starts from within, and it seems this minority of women is up against a marketing/PR juggernaut and they are being handles with Kidd gloves, but they are being "handled."

I hope these women rise up, and I hope Muslim women rise up, and they all earn the right to be treated as equals in their religious traditions, this is how we progress.

I think the next step is to expose the Mormon religion as based on a fraud -- not to perpetuate it by ordaining women.

Why is Mormonism more or less of a fraud than any other religion?

It's not.

It may not be more of a fraud, but there's more recent evidence that it is. Mormonism is a new religion -- it's easier to test its claims -- where are those golden sheaves, after all -- it should be easy enough to find them buried in the hills of NY. What is this business of a multi layered heaven and why did God see the need for it? Is the garden of eden in the middle east, or in Missouri, as the Mormons believe, etc, etc,

And when we've finished trashing the Mormons, we can start in on atheists like the ones on this thread, with the obvious exception of OP. Smug feelings of intellectual and moral superiority, check. Compulsion to persuade others to your own way of thinking, check.

Nope -- just presenting facts easily available and already known to many people, including many Mormons.

Sounds like someone's a little grumpy this morning.

I'm sorry, you were saying something about atheists and I got interrupted by the Jehovah's Witnesses at my door.

I'll see your so-called compulsion and raise you a gospel:

Mark 16:15-16 (KJV))

15. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Why is this thread on trashing Mormons turning into a thread on trashing Christians? Oh, that's right, because that's the path every thread takes. Carry on....

I'm sorry, did we interrupt your desire to trash one Christian faith by lumping all of you in together? How unreasonable of us. We'll just let you go back to dissing one religion without pointing out your apparent hypocrisy by not applying the same rigorous intellectual standards to the beliefs, tenets and practices of your own religion.

How is quoting the Bible, "trashing" Christianity

PS - Mormonism is a form of Christianity

Uh, no, it is NOT! Go read some prior threads here on Mormonism.

Women cannot hold the Aaronic or Melchezidek priesthood because that flies in the face of what Mormons believe. It is the husband who knows the wife's secret name and only he can pull her through the veils (symbolically done during the wedding ceremony in the temple) into Heaven. A woman by herself cannot get into the top, Celestial, Heaven on her own. Period. Her husband must take her in. Here's what the past president of the church said about it.
