| Im going for a girls weekend in 5 weeks and want to get back into some of my old clothes. Put on a ton of weight over the summer and particularly the last month. Trying to get rid of it once and for all. Has anyone done this? |

I don't think it's possible unless you're eating quite a bit to start or are quite overweight.
I weighed 140 at 5'7" and generally eat 1500 to 1800 calories a day. I dropped to 1000 calories daily and cut out all sugar and all carbs except for fruit and it took 5 weeks to drop 5 pounds and about 12 weeks to drop 10 and I was religious about following the diet. |
| I did the Smoothie Shakedown by Ann Louise Gittleman, essentially two weeks of clean eating and I lost 8 pounds. A lot of it was water weight but I could see a real difference when I looked in the mirror, my face and waistline was slimmer. Because I was eating healthy I also felt great. Definitely worth consideration of you want to drop weight quickly. |
You weren't overweight to start -- that's why it took you so long and you had to cut back so much. For an overweight person, 2lbs/week is totally doable, without major suffering. |

OP here. Thanks everyone. Im not overweight - just carrying an extra 10 lbs. I find i can get rid of 5lbs pretty easily and then i struggle. Even when i take it off, I cant keep it off.
Anyway, Im going to try and see where i get to in 5 weeks time. Anything should be an improvement on this. |
Those 5 pounds are water weight, so not hard to get rid of. The 5 pounds after are fat and they require lifestyle changes to go away. |
| I think that 10 lbs in 5 weeks is doable, but not easy - especially if your starting point is from a reasonable weight where you aren't drinking tons of soda and eating a lot of junk. That said, I think that South Beach (or Atkins, though less healthy) will help you drop the weight quickly. (Basically, cut out all sugar and refined carbs - rice, pasta, bread.) Go for it and report back. |
| Age and metabolism are big factors too. |
| South Beach did wonders for me, but I couldn't keep it off. If you only want a fast fix, that's the way to go. Long term, the only thing that worked for me was major exercise changes |
|
OP here. Ive signed up for the gym and will start that next week once the kids are back in school. I agree that there is no way i can do this without some serious exercising.
Im planning to cut out sugar and processed carbs. But need to get past halloween without hoovering up all the kids candy. |
| I've dropped 12 lbs in the last 4 weeks by keeping my net calories to 1500/day and eating my own version of paleo (I eat oatmeal, dairy and beans too). I have one day a week where I eat anything I want. I log my food in myfitnesspal pal every day and I exercise and walk a lot (I have a fitbit to keep track of walking/running). I started at 163 and am now at 151. I think I'm lucky to have a pretty good metabolism. I've pretty much always been active and I have not dieted much in my life so my metabolism hasn't bren screwed up. Oh, and I just turned 40. |

I'm doing exactly what 11:14 is doing. I try to do no dairy before lunch, too. I did something similar two years ago and lost 17 pounds in 10 weeks without exercising, and lost most of it in the first 5 weeks. I just had a baby 4 months ago so I'm trying to get back down to my pre-baby weight and this is the only "diet" that works for me. I plan to make this a permanent way of eating. I only started wheat and more dairy again while I was pregnant and the first few months after the birth because I was too tired and hungry to put a lot of thought and planning into my meals (i.e., I was lazy).
Good luck, OP. 2 pounds of weight loss a week is definitely doable, even if you're just exercising and eating a low-calorie diet. |
| My friend and I did this at the beginning of the summer. We did a hardcore Paleo diet (along with walking 10000 steps every day) and we both lost 10 lbs in a month. Good luck! |
| Totally doable. Whole30. |
