Not trying to sound stupid, but why did the beheading victims just kneel there?

Anonymous
I was just thinking, no way would I just kneel there without causing a ruckus and wait for my head to be chopped off. I don't understand why they were being so calm. I would have been rolling around, screaming, trying to run or some kind of fight. What am I missing? Not trying to sound insensitive, but just really baffled. Is it more of an honor thing to just kneel there and "take it"?

I believe the French man attempted to curl up/get away, from what I've read. I read another former hostage say that he was routinely subjected to false beheadings and threatened executions, only to be returned to a cell, so he thinks that those that have been beheaded had no idea that it was actually going to happen for real. It was just another potential false execution that they had become numb towards.

Awful, awful stuff.

I know what you are saying Op.

While the guy is standing there in front of a camera (I assume hes distracted with his talking rant) I would attempt to stand up, kick his groin, and at least die fighting.

I realize it's easy for me to say as I stand here safely in my cushy civilized democratic 1st world country.

They go through mock executions and torture. There is no where to run. There was the young guy whose name escapes me--Berg I think. He tried to scramble away but to know avail.

It is psychology. These people are not picked up and immediately slaughtered. They go through days/weeks of mental/physical torture that wears down even the most determined individuals.

There is literature on how it works, or if you have friends in Special Forces/SEALs/Some Agency that went through SERE training they may be able to share their point of view on what goes on in your mind.

Honestly if this is how I am going to go, I'd hope it would be quick. "Fighting" against armed men would just make it worse.

They also probably have a gun out of sight so if you do try, you are dead.

You are dead either way but I'd rather be shot. Maybe what you mean is they threaten to shoot them in the practice runs if they move. BTW they lose consciousness pretty quickly once the carotid is severed.

There was already a thread on this recently, do a search.

Not to be crass, but you're dead either way. I want to think that my family / friends would be proud of me if I stood up and fought until death. That said, I have no real perspective (thank God) and I understand that those poor men are psychologically, as well as physically, tortured.

BTW. The French decapitated many Algerians up until 1962. They used the guillotine regularly on the nationalists fighting against France.

I don't know, I see it kind of the opposite. I see them as being brave and dying stoically. I wouldn't want to die pathetic and begging for my life for all the world to see. They know what's going to happen either way so they might as well do it proud.

That said, that's just the way I see it. It breaks my heart and makes me sick that we even have to talk about this. Not even animals are this bad to each other.
