| Does that mean the FARMS rate is above 60%? Last year's report said it was in the 40s. |
| Should add that I am happy that children who need it are getting breakfast, but also don't like that my kid will have unhealthy choices around him. Also, there was always concern for those slated to go to Oakland Terrace originally that the mix would end up much different at Flora Singer. Seems like this is becoming reality. |
| We've always had higher FARMS at Singer since it opened. Not sure what contributed to the free lunch. I'm sure Heatwole would tell you if you asked him. |
| Meant free breakfast. |
If it was not affecting you BEFORE the free breakfast, what in the dreaming difference dies it make now ????? Live your life in reality, not stats or the fear mongering of DCUM!!! Flora Singer has a very involved and DIVERSE(race, nationality, native tongue, income) community. The kids there get along great, don't ruin by wondering if little Johnny's parents earn less than you. |
He covered it at the first PTA meeting and BTS nite. |
Tell your kid and your kids teacher what DC is not allowed to have . That Is what we do, it's called parenting. As for the mix, we have a great community of various peoples who work well together. Lets not mess it up by being afraid of the boogeyman of lower income. Do you even realize that what qualifies as FARMS income here is the average income in a lot of places? Earning less money does not mean you are less educated, violent or going to cause someone else's kid to not want to learn. I am truly disturbed that this type if attitude seems to be creeping into our community. I amore afraid of that than a family receiving reduced lunch. |
| It's part of a grant. The kids can choose not to eat. I agree the school is perfect the way it is with it's diversity and community. If you don't like diversity, move. But your kids will only benefit from learning in an environment that is rich with culture, language, Etc. |
| The Farms rate hasn't changed. The free breakfast progr expanded. |
| You Flora Singer parents are awesome for shutting this nonsense down. |
| What do you mean re shutting it down? |
We prefer FSES to OTES. The farms rate is higher but it is no where near 60%. |
|
Geez, the Farms rate is only 40%...such a nonissue. OTES is 35%...practically the same. You do realize that some MoCo schools are pushing 80% farms, right? Your 40% isn't a big deal.
But back to the OP: her beef is with the possibility of her kid "eating junk." Not sure what they're serving at FS, but I know they serve cereal and OJ or muffins at a Title I school in SS. I don't think your precious snowflake will be ruined by such "junk." If it bugs you, then talk to your KID and set limits. But don't bother the teacher with such nonsense...she is not the food police. That's not her job. It's one thing if your kid has an allergy, but this isn't an allergy. |
| The principal has stated publicly that if you have an issue with the breakfast to communicate with your child and with the classroom teacher. |
Some are actually higher than 90% farms, fyi |
