Flora Singer is a great model of what you all say MoCo should strive for in populating their schools... and it is working wonderfully! The administration is amazing. The parents (of all races) are involved. Kudos to Singer and the principal for getting Singer into this program. Yes, I could complain about chocolate milk and cinnamon buns but I choose to be glad that 5 and 6 year olds can't yet distinguish between the haves and the have-nots by who leaves the classroom to receive free food. Hopefully that boost of food without stigma raises up the children who need it and allows them to learn better. We're high income and could afford other neighbors, but I love what Singer can offer my children.

I agree. We are new to the school, but so far we really like it. And we love the neighborhood we live in.

In response to a pp re: schools with less than 5% farms:

The following schools are 6% -

Bethesda
Kensington Parkwood
Belmont

And I suspect Singer is just as excellent as those schools.

Meaning more money flushed down the drain.

It's a state program ... if we don't get it another school will so ...

We could move to another school district but Singer is why we won't. It's freakin' magic, dude. I love that place.

Almost every school in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac is around 5% FARMS. Very low ESOL too.

Judging by the grammar of Singer parents, I'm glad my kids won't be going there.

And we are all glad that we won't have to deal with you.

Those of you who have nothing to do with Singer, why are you in this thread? Just to be nasty?

No, the PP's post is grammatically correct. What you're objecting to is the diction.

If you're going to be snooty, it helps to be accurate and snooty. Otherwise people tend to giggle.

Is it still a Strand 5 school? I'd worry about that instead of the free breakfast. Ymmv.

What does that mean?

I live in Forest Estates and the people who can afford it send their kids to St. John's or Sandy Spring Friends School.

What an ugly community we have when parents who are proud of their diverse school have their grammar nitpicked and corrected. The negative posters are an embarrassment to all parents.

I live in Chevy Chase and the parents that can afford it send their kids to Lowell, Holton Arms and Georgetown Day plus a plethora of other schools. Does that mean public education is substandard in CC?
