Boundary Cheaters

Does it bother anyone else that while whole schools are being redistricted out of Deal, a fair number of kids who reside outside the city get in by registering at another address. My child knows several Maryland families who use Grandma's address or a family friend's address to get to Deal. There must be many others. Isn't it time for DCPS to get serious about enforcement before depriving actual DC residents of the chance to go to its best schools?

Yes it bothers me. You'll see, collectively, hundreds of Maryland license plates around Capitol Hill public schools each morning as kids are dropped of.

And, yes, DCPS should get serious about enforcement.

Yes, but then enrollment numbers would probably be thousands less. That would be a PR fiasco.

Yes. OP, if you guys know Deal cheaters, why aren't you turning them in?

not op but i too knoe of deal cheaters and alsodeal feeder elem cheaters. i have called the hotline and given info including md license plate #s. nothing ever seems tkidso happen. not sure if anyone even investigates. the only time thatthat i heard a md family get kicked out of dc was at wilson because the football coach found out. not sure if that family had to pay for years and years of dcps for multiple kids. sorry for the typos, new phone.

For the bill on the time dcps does not consider lisense plates as sole proof. You need more substantial evidence.

Only times I've ever heard of an address cheaters being caught is when a social worker got involved to do home visits

Two of my daughters friends are cheaters, but I don't care. Policing is up to DCPS. They don't care, I don't care.

I'm sure there are dc people who cheat to get into VA and Montgomery Co. schools too. Probably a wash.

I have. Nothing happened. It just burns me now that my neighborhood will now feed into Hardy. It doesn't impact me -- but will impact those with younger children.

So your just pissed at the moment. Oh the hate.

License plate numbers are not enough. You need names and addresses. If you just have license plate numbers, then you don't have evidence if cheating.

I turned in addresses too. Still nothing.

There is a thread about this every few days. I used to be so outraged but I just can stomach anymore of this round and round we go complaintfest. Somebody who really cares enough should spearhead a campaign to demand that it be dealt with including filing suit against the city for shirking it's duty in protecting our tax dollars. But me, I can't devote energy to this issue anymore. After six years I'm exhausted by it.

Well, I care. It's a little much to be told that Deal is too crowded for my kids, while a bunch of PG kids have burrowed in. They should find the cheating families, root them out and prosecute the parents for residency fraud.
