"This was just text to me from a high profile CPAC attendee:

"Went to doc today, VA. Referred to health dept if I want a test for COVID-19. Doc told me health dept won?t give tests without full name of the person diagnosed that you came into contact with. Symptoms irrelevant."

Seems like the local health department in DC is the problem

WTF? Keeping the numbers as low as possible?

Virginia is also democratically run now.

So are Florida and other red states doing more testing than the blue states?

Interesting question. Might be hard to draw an inference because we don?t know how many test kits are available (or do we now?).

Dunno. But we are now talking about the exposure of incompetence in local health departments and communications issues. You can blame Trump if you want, but given the same things happened during the Ebola crisis, I would say that's probably not smart.

It doesn't matter if the phone answerers at locals, state, and CDC are incompetent.

Yes, I remember the terrible mismanagement of the Ebola crisis, with hundreds infected and tens dead...

On second thought, no I don't remember that.

I never said anything about blaming Trump. I'm not even going to focus on his tweets about it being contained or a hoax. I was just responding to the PP who is blaming democrats. So it prompted me to question if R states are faring any better. Just asking questions. Not insinuating anything.

Something that preventable should have never gotten here. Not one case.

The CDC told a nurse she could fly even though she had direct contact with the ebola guy. She was infected and flew.

Incompetence is due to budget cuts: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/health-agencies-funding-cuts-challenge-coronavirus-response/2020/03/08/73953314-5f0a-11ea-b014-4fafa866bb81_story.html

Guessing we?ll be at about 500,000 cases by April. Where will people be treated?

And that one nurse is all you can think about.

We heard you.

that was literally one case. and she did not infect anyone on the flight, did she? this is magnitudes different.

In hotels, in stadiums, in tent hospitals...

'
The vast majority can ride it out and home and don't need special treatments.

Per WHO, one reason for China's success in keeping the virus from spreading (including in cities other than Wuhan) is setting up quarantine centers even for mild cases, so they don't infect their families. So we need to do the same if we want to slow this down.

500,000 cases, only a few thousand needing hospital treatment. By mid April people will realize NBD.
