Meanwhile, can you please make up your mind if recruiting is good or bad? In one breath you're telling us that new recruits are no longer coming to FCV and in the other breath you're telling us they recruit everyone they have.

Point being, you severly underestimate the power of the ECNL. Probably because you havent been around long enough to truly understand certain things.

Your beloved USSF only got into the youth game to grab a piece of the financial pie. They want the DA parents to finance everything National team related. There is no real higher purpose.

Even though this is not the post educating us on the realities of the emerging soccer market. While we wait for that to drop, let's discuss this.

Let's not pretend that ECNL has been around forever. They are relatively new to the game. 2009 in fact. It was largely in response the BDA that preceded it (launched in 2007). So to suggest that the ECNL "built" this concept is silly.

Second, while you may be right that the DA is more expensive for the club, it is still cheaper for the player. HS is one separator between the two, but, again, to be honest, ECNL was not exactly encouraging HS play until the GDA came along and it became a PR point. The other separator is cost to the player. The hope for the top level of youth soccer is that is can be heavily subsidized so that it is affordable to everyone. For this to happen, there are many suggestions and some a MUCH bigger discussion than this. However, with the ECNL in charge, that will never happen. The are concerned WITH MAKING MONEY. The DA still gives hope that they will one day US Soccer will heavily subsidize the youth game like the rest of the world.

When, or better said, IF that day comes, ECNL will die as a destination for the top players (with few exceptions that will still value HS).

Criticizing the DA for wanting to make money is 100% fair today. But to let ECNL off that hook is BS. ECNL is no more noble than any other league in terms of making money and wielding power in youth soccer.

Not criticizing USSF for wanting to make money from youth soccer. I'm just pointing out that they are not a brave knight coming to save us..like some hacks like to preach on here. In fact, the DA is the same as every other league in the nation. The clubs run the training. The clubs recruit the kids. The club develops the kid.....the club the club the club. Some are good. Some are bad. The difference is the consolidation of talent. USSF tried to steal the consolidation aspect created by ECNL.

ECNL consolidated (by large part) the girls soccer talent in the US and let the clubs decide the best way to develop them. USSF stole a part of that consolidation and said "we know best. Do it our way". In reality, USSF is an inferior organization and the clubs are still running the programs in the same way as they were in the ECNL...just paying more. That's why some of the big clubs backed out.

High school: Such a dumb debate. They are kids. They wont even hit their athletic prime for another 8-10 years. My kid plays ECNL and doesnt play HS. Her choice. She works out, builds muscle, rejuvenates, works on self improvement in areas of weakness, etc. Shes doing things that would be impossible to do in the DA because of 4x a week practice, 1 game a week, two days off for recovery.

There is a path an plan for everyone. You choose. Two competing elite leagues is good. A Monopoly has never been good. History proves that.

Ps: Coaches are the #1 factor in development.

There is no inherent DA pull beyond National Team level players.

Come on guys. GDA has been around for 1 year and 8 months. The delusional analysis needs to stop.

ECNL kids go to YNT centers. US scouts will be at ECNL ID2 this weekend. Why would ECNL ever want to work with USSF? ECNL has done 10x more for USSF....who failed at a hostile takeover (go figure)

The bad actor in this is USSF...and the cherry on top is that they were too weak to accomplish a takeover....and thank the lord the didnt.

Consolidating the elite teams in one league gets us closer to less travel. Imagine if FCV, BRUC, McLean, MU, Arlington, Loudoun, Bethesda, Armour, Richmond and MD Utd played each other instead of traveling to SC or MA to play league games.

Swallow your pride. Consolidation would be great for the sport.

OMG. What dont you understand? If DA allows HS then they should disband....not ECNL. It's also not just about High school. Some of the better teams are ECNL....that's why kids go there.
