Spring Travel Soccer Tryouts 2018

He's not going to be on a top team, but he's excited to be part of travel soccer and to work on his skills to go along with his aggressive play. Anyone have experience with both and want to share their thoughts on which program will teach the best or build skills best going forward. We're not the type of people who move around a lot, so we'd like to know which people think will build the best foundation for a successful soccer career if he stays with it. Success= fun and skill building.

I've heard nothing but negative things about the Stoddert program..in terms of the way the club is run.

I don't get why the question gets asked so often. Because kids want to play and parents have the money. Why do we need to analyze further?

I don't think my kids are going to be the next Leo Messi. I doubt they'll play Division 1 in college. But they love soccer, they're having fun, making friends, and learning a lot. Why are people so protective of how "elite" travel soccer used to be??

I would say it's population density and each of these clubs in FFX have large rec programs. The problem is that each of these clubs then try to compete in travel as well. Honestly, a club like Burke or FPYC should focus solely on serving rec players in their neighborhoods and then those players that want higher level of competition could switch to a club like BRYC.

.....why....

+1 Sure, they are small, but what does that matter? Why is having one (sometimes none and sometimes two) travel teams per age group a problem?

Is FPYC fielding a 07 boys travel team for next fall? Anyone been to tryouts? Feedback appreciated

Probably not. There were not enough to have an 07 boys team last year. The better 07s played up on the 06 team. Will probably be same for 2018-19. Tryouts are just starting (tonight actually, weather pending.)

My son has played Stoddert travel for several years. He didn’t start out on the top team but is there now. He loves it and his skills have improved a ton. Most kids who start with Stoddert seem to stay there, which can make it hard to break in later. We know a few kids who have switched to Arlington or Bethesda, but I don’t know the reasons. Don’t know anyone who has gone to PPA and I don’t know enoufh to offer a comparison. Good luck deciding.

I've had kids in both (stoddert and PPA). The training and level of play is much better in Stoddert. However, the administration will drive you crazy.
I'm now deciding between the two for my youngest kid and I think I'm going to hold my nose, suck it up and go with Stoddert. The training is just better.

The link that someone posted earlier for Arlington does not seem to have any results. Are they being extra slow this year or is that link inactive?

Arlington will email you if you made it and what team, but no other information. A few days later, ASA will email you the whole roster of who made which team. A few surprises in our year, more of a shakeup than expected.

We left BRYC boys because it was a wreck. If you have a strong fast kid you should be good. If you have a smaller technical skilled child look elsewhere. If you have both then you wont have a problem anywhere. BRYC tried to opt out of playing in a league early in the season then ended up enrolling into NCSL. They were doing every tournament to try to supplement the league play. Thank tanked terribly.

Hard to teach speed.

Wait until puberty on that one. It evens the playing field. Those that had to rely on skill the longest end up better once body/speed catches up after puberty. That’s why the teams change drastically by 16.

I know other age groups sent out some offers after the first try-out but most were after the second.

^ my kid was one of the fastest on the field at age 7/8/9/10/11, etc. now as a teen he’s solidly average speed wise. The speed of play is much faster and those with good first touch/one touch do better than some that can just sprint. Kind of like Usain Bolt at Man U.
