Anyone attend any of the Villarreal Academy Virginia tryouts? Is it the same ole cattle call type tryouts or are they employing something different to evaluate potential players?

We left BRYC boys because it was a wreck. If you have a strong fast kid you should be good. If you have a smaller technical skilled child look elsewhere. If you have both then you wont have a problem anywhere. BRYC tried to opt out of playing in a league early in the season then ended up enrolling into NCSL. They were doing every tournament to try to supplement the league play. Thank tanked terribly.

What’s the word on Olympiacos fc . They are holding tryouts this week at pine ridge fields in Annandale they should be a real competitor for kids in the villa real ( Annandale fc) and bryc pool. Also a little cheaper on the fees side . Looks like a good program.

Why are there so many teams in such a small area of Fairfax county? Annandale, Springfield, Burke, etc. Waters.down the teams.

That is an age old question and why teams like Arlington and Loudon dominate. One large pool of players from one region. Unfortunately, the main reason is $$$. Its a lucrative business and parents are willing to pay (myself included I will add). Granted FFX is large and I can understand not everyone wants to travel long distances for practices etc.

I don't get why the question gets asked so often. Because kids want to play and parents have the money. Why do we need to analyze further?

I don't think my kids are going to be the next Leo Messi. I doubt they'll play Division 1 in college. But they love soccer, they're having fun, making friends, and learning a lot. Why are people so protective of how "elite" travel soccer used to be??

I would say it's population density and each of these clubs in FFX have large rec programs. The problem is that each of these clubs then try to compete in travel as well. Honestly, a club like Burke or FPYC should focus solely on serving rec players in their neighborhoods and then those players that want higher level of competition could switch to a club like BRYC.

DS got offer to play Stoddert travel or PPA travel for the first time at U10- we live in DC, so these are logically close. He's not going to be on a top team, but he's excited to be part of travel soccer and to work on his skills to go along with his aggressive play. Anyone have experience with both and want to share their thoughts on which program will teach the best or build skills best going forward. We're not the type of people who move around a lot, so we'd like to know which people think will build the best foundation for a successful soccer career if he stays with it. Success= fun and skill building.

Our kids, both genders, have done both and the "fun" and "skill building" are much better at PPA in our experience.

Let me tell you, I would welcome the variety. We are in a 'one-stop shop' at one of the two big ones. It would take us too much time sitting in traffic to go elsewhere. I wish there was a competitor within the County, something smaller and more personal.
