It is very elite and socially elite....maybe not around DC. |
AGain, you are stuck in the glorious past like the previous “definitive” poster. Try to stay current and not show your age. 2021: Harvard/Columbia/Yale/MIT/Princeton Stanford . . . Chicago/Penn Duke/Northwestern |
It is elite but it is certainly not socially elite. It’s filled with STEM nerds and savants with relatively lesser social skills — and there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s an incredibly institution, in the same way that Juilliard is. |
Can’t we make a similar argument for MIT? |
Jesus H Christmas these stereotypes are offensive. Just look up alumi of those two schools and come back here and make the case they are "nerds and savants". You posters aren't idiot savants. Well, not the "savant" part, anyway. |
Harvard Yale Stanford MIT Princeton Columbia Caltech Berkeley Duke Harvey Mudd |
| You state school grad nerds are still at this? Good grief. |
Harvey Mudd has no place on these lists. And frankly, neither does Berkeley. |

Harvey Mudd doesn’t have the depth that MIT, CalTech, or even ivy STEMs have. It’s not as well known - and the problem is, it only attracts applicants from those in the know. Mudd can only select from this pool, so their admit rate is sky high at 15%. Schools with <6% admit rates can fill their classes with stronger students because of the depth of their applicant pool. |
Harvard Yale Stanford MIT Princeton Columbia UPenn Caltech Duke Berkley |
| A 15% admit rate is not "sky high" |
No, you can’t. A lot of MIT grads go on to work in finance, management consulting, etc. if you went to MIT you’d know there’s a ton of students with pretty great social skills, mostly in the frats. |
It’s sky high compared to schools that are <4%. It’s still a good school. Mudd STEM students can compete with elite STEM students. |
