| My kid had a 117 composite on the CogAt but we knew her true ability was higher, so we paid $350 for a WISC. Her IQ came back at 130, and she got into AAP with that score. If you suspect your child is smarter than what the CogAt scores suggest, my advice is to invest in WISC testing. Best $350 I ever spent. |
Personally, I'd get a WISC in case you need it for appeal. That was our situation 2 years ago and the WISC was good, like the CogAt and DC got in on appeal. |
Any score about 85% stands a chance..if you have a great GBRS, appeal with WISC, etc - your DC will have a change to get into the program. Good Luck.

Do they have to be 5 pages of work sheets and 5 of certificate and recommendation letters or can they be any number with a total of 10. My DD has about 5 certificates, I wanted to add 1-2 recommendation letters and just 2 work samples, and school provides one. Would that work or would they throw out the extra letters or certificates? Thanks . |
They would weed out the extras. What are all those certificates for? If they're not relevent, don't include them. It is not necessary to include student of the month certificates or honor roll certificates. At many schools everyone is a student of the month at some point during the year and the committee will have report cards so they will know if a kid has good grades. Make sure what you're including is relevent to academic achievement. |
Hi, My daughter scores are COGAT 123 (percentile 90%) and NNAT 119. What is GBRS and WISC ? We never got those scores? We are also not sure it there are any chances for the kids that are not in the pool. |
| Our son got composite age score of 140; 99 percentile in non-verbal and quantitative 89 percentile in verbal. He's in the second grade AAP pool. I don't know what the cut-off is. Does anybody know that. I heard the county publishes the cut-off. But couldn't find it on the web. |
| By the way for the post above - We're in Fairfax county. I don't know what GBRS and WISC are. Perhaps they're not considered in Fairfax county. |
You cannot be serious. |
PLEASE take 5 minutes to read through the thread and educate yourself about the process instead of asking someone to explain it all from the beginning for the umpteenth time. It's really annoying - the info is all here if you would just bother to read any of it. And yes, we are all talking about FCPS. |
GBRS is done by the teacher for children in the 2nd grade pool. No one knows this score for their children. Only after the files are submitted in february would the aart share this number with parents. the wisc is an iq test that people do on their own. |
Thanks for the reply. If GBRS is done only for pool students., then for students not in pool. parents have to get id done from teacher by themselves, before sending the Referal form? |
| No. After you parent refer, the school does the GBRS. |
| 133, 124, 117, composite 128. 96% percentile, not in the pool. |
