IEPs are for children with disabilities. You have to qualify for them. You can't just "get an IEP." - Professional with an undergrad and grad degree in education and psychology. |
That’s their choice. The rules allow it. |
Redshirting doesn’t prevent anyone from accessing these services and IEP. If you trust the professionals, then trust the ones that recommended to us that we hold our kids back, which is exactly what we did! |
I know a lot of women and no one talks like you. I can’t imagine you have any friendships in your life. If you want to feel superior by sending your super old kid to school and insulting others on a message board because you’re bored and lonely carry on. |
Then what is the issue you feel that you can’t send a 5 to Kinder? I’m telling you, you’re making it something it’s not. It’s not that hard. Trust me. |
Some kids just need a bit more time. That’s the help. It’s so weird you can’t understand that. Professionals and parents agree. Busy bodies with faux concerns about other people’s children don’t get an opinion. |
Why do you feel the need to assume every 4-5 year old who doesn’t start kindergarten has a disability? Does it make you feel better about your parenting choices? All the Nordic counties start at six, Sweden just moved to six from seven. Do you assume there’s a vast Scandinavian learning disability coverup? |
Trust you? A disingenuous blow hard on a message board? WTF would someone listen to you over their pediatrician, preschool teacher, kindergarten teacher, and their own gut over the best move for their own kid? Who do you think you are? You’re disguising your own concern for your child’s issues as concern for others. It’s fake and transparent. Follow your own advice and do what’s best for your own kid and stay in your lane. |
You seem really passionate about this. What if you devoted your passion to making public kindergarten align with the data of what is developmentally appropriate for 5 year olds? What if you worked to get more than 50% of their school day outdoors, child-directed play, enrichment in art, music and dance, foreign language and no more than 15 minutes per day at a desk. Then you could accomplish your goal of people sending to Kindergarten at 5, because yelling at people on the internet isn’t getting it done. In the meantime my child will spend age five in a program like I described above, and I wish it for all other children as well. |
No, they don’t. They need to be in school with age appropriate peers |
What? Again, did you read her post? Explain how it makes sense to complain about redshirting making it so hard to be the youngest in the class when you STARTED EARLY and SKIPPED a grade? But you are spot on that you and I would NEVER be friends, so gold star for that! |
You can do private services the year you hold your kid back. You will not get an iep till they are in school so kids are missing a critical year for help. |
Most are saying hold back as it makes you happy. Most aren’t putting their kids in services. They also aren’t thinking of the future when these kids are in hs and they are 19-20 and taking classes with 13-14 year olds. |
I’m sure handwriting help and speech therapy is just what a young and immature kid with ADHD needs. Definitely not more time for a developmental issue. Can’t have that! |
Why aren’t the parents of 13-14 year olds concerned and doing something different? The parents of other kids are being good parents. You can’t expect other people to pave the road for you. |
