Annoying things people make their whole personality

This is the one I disagree with. Mental health is all consuming. It's the basic building block of life. If you can't relate then you are already ahead of the game.

I think the thing with mental health, though, is it’s a personal and internal journey. It’s when people begin proselytizing, pushing uninformed advice, and being an armchair psychologist to themselves and others that it becomes an identity.

If every conversation you have with anyone is about your mental health, or diagnosis, or therapy, I think that’s probably not a healthy way of addressing mental health issues.

The fact that Gen Z has been sold this story that they are all anxious, depressed, bipolar, borderline, precious, etc … everyone has mental struggles of some kind. Some more than others. But this is a whole different kind of epidemic we’ve got with this nonsense.

Travel soccer parents. Or travel anything.

Well, Jonathan Haidt backs this story up and it’s not like he is some kind of, well, coddler of the American mind.

Gen X here, living in LA, surrounded by annoying people who all act like Gen y or z, even when some of them are actually boomers:

Your food intolerances or ‘allergies’ or preferences or whatever you want to call it, when it’s just really a new way of having an eating disorder

Your mental health and your trauma, and your personal truth and your history and your blah blah blah used to excuse your behaviour. Keep it to yourself and keep moving.

Your reiki or your meditation or your yoga or your spinning or your cult or whatever, do you. Do whatever makes you happy but please keep it to yourself.

Your political views, your extremes leaning beliefs, your black or white thinking. I don’t care.

How you hate going to the office. How work is so hard and it’s not okay to have to work 40hrs a week. If you don’t like it, GET ANOTHER JOB, OR SHUT UP, AND GET OFF MY LAWN.

Your sexual orientation or gender or non gender or whatever - I don’t care, just be who you are. You are all accepted and I don’t need to know who you are or are not bonong or if you’re fluid or whatever, I don’t care.

That's called Munchausen's! I have EDS and it's become a trendy self diagnosis lately. Which is really funny, because you can only be officially diagnosed with a blood test. I've seen a couple of them on tiktok and thought it was morbidly entertaining.

I also have EDS (diagnosed by a geneticist) but you can’t do a blood test for most forms. I find it weird that you’d claim you can.

From the Mayo Clinic: “ Extremely loose joints, fragile or stretchy skin, and a family history of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome are often enough to make a diagnosis. Genetic tests on a sample of your blood can confirm the diagnosis in rarer forms of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and help rule out other problems. For hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, the most common form, there is no genetic testing available.”

The dead beat mom schtick. Like, oh I never cook, clean, do anything for my family. My husband does all that. Ok, fine, good for you both, I guess. But don't bring it up in every conversation. We get it.

It’s that they make it a personality trait. Get help. Get better. Move on. No one want to hear about your trauma ALL the damn time.

Homework is not racially equitable.

I guess thankfully my world is very small and I barely go anywhere so not sure if anyone has picked up on it yet.

I am sorry. It must be a lot. I have heard counselors say try to do something even just small for just you as a person every day separate from being a mom whether it is just taking a shower with your favorite music playing or exercising (if can't get sitter - there are free shows on tv for exerting at home).
