Tough sh--. Neither you nor anyone else get to make that call for them. Or that they have to "choose a different job." YOU choose a different way to school your child. YOu had options. Did not do so? That's on YOU. PS- my kid has ZERO learning loss. If you worked a bit harder on your end, maybe yours wouldn't either. Again, that's all YOU. |
Oh you are one of those people who had breakfast and, because of that, think there are no starving people in the world. . . . it IS a problem |
The PP is incorrect on their very first line. Teachers are not essential employees. And essential employee is someone that is required to keep the day today practices of society running, power, water, health; that does not include education. I know you want it to, but it doesn’t. |
But not a large problem if most students aren't even using the library. Not a daily problem. There are bigger issues in FCPS is all. This isn't something that people should be aligning their vote on either republican or democrat. |
Book banning is the work of authoritarian regimes and a number of republican school board candidates made it part of their campaign platform. Yes, I will align my vote with candidates who aren't banning books and will oppose those candidates who spew hate against our trans and LGBTQ students. |
Well, at least she’ll get paid through then. |
Times 1000. I’m in Mclean and haven’t been thrilled with our representation but I’m not voting for some stealth MAGA takeover of the SB. Run a boring technocratic candidate who wants to focus on school issues alone and isn’t going to get sucked into all the social issues, etc…and who frankly isn’t really focused on aligning with either party and I’d totally vote for them. |
Your overwhelming support those books is a little bizarre. It was a stupid argument on the right to bring up, but equally stupid of the left to meet their fire. They were comic books with pictures of adults doing sex acts with minors. If that's how you want to focus your energy as to what the school board should focus on when kids don't even go to the library or usually read these books, then don't expect other actual work that matters to academics to get done. Just like the dyslexic kid's issue with getting all the language arts teaching plus dyslexia fit into a school day, the school board can only focus on so many things. |
No independent candidate running without an endorsement from one of the two main parties has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected to the SB. These are low-information elections and independent candidates cannot break through. Nor, for that matter, can Republicans any longer, including in McLean (where every precinct voted for the Democratic candidates for the Dranesville and at-large seats). |
The people choosing books for libraries are librarians, not SB members. The people getting their panties in a bunch over whatever they perceive as inappropriate, are all right wingers. Everything was fine, until these people started making a fuss over books that kids likely wouldn't have even heard of, if they hadn't brought them up. The people wasting everyone's time, is those people making a fuss over books and expecting that they be banned. Personally, I do not ban books for my child. She is free to read whatever she wants. If you don't want your kid to read something, take it up with your kid. I'm not about to tell you that you shouldn't do that. It's not something that the SB's time should be wasted on. Therefore, when someone running for the SB makes it just about the entirety of their platform, it's not someone I take seriously, or want anywhere near a SB. If they're wasting everyone's time as a non-SB member, I can only imagine how much more they would, if they're on a SB. |
So school porn is good as long as it's stealth porn kept on the down low. |
I am not a children's librarian. I don't know if these books are appropriate for middle/high schoolers. If librarians deem that it is, then I am not about to question their expertise. The librarians of my acquaintance don't have agendas, beyond wanting everyone to read. |
So did you vote for any Independent at-large candidates? |
The point of my post was that it makes no sense to put someone on the SB who is running on a platform of book banning, because they will take up the SB's time on the issue, instead of addressing matters of considerably higher importance. |
Agreed. It's a dumb issue to focus on unless these are required reading books in classes. |
