Boundaries assessment update 2023

Fairfax county owns a huge piece of parkland right between the two most overcrowded schools. Take a big chunk of Ellanor Lawrence park, build a high school and send Centreville and Chantilly kids there.

I don't live in that part of the county but it seems like such an obvious solution that there must be a political reason preventing it from happening.

are you speaking of Eleanor Lawrence Park? I don't think the terrain would work. If you are talking about the fields off Hwy 28, the traffic situation would be unacceptable.

Yes. The park is huge. Tons of space. I'm sure brilliant engineering minds of Fairfax County could fix "terrain" issues.

They made a mistake by building bull run elementary. They need a high school there instead.

Edge of Fairfax County with the only major artery being hwy 29? No traffic issues there.

Aren't there some schools in existing parkland. They won't put a high school there because they are in the process of renovating it, but Crossfield ES comes to mind.

This is a good idea.

I don't think you have been in that area.

Right off a main road seems ideal for a large high school. The real issue would be that its not in a densely populsted area and is farther away from the overcrowded areas. But nearby elementaries could handle the excess capscity if they turned it into a HS

There’s also a few horse farms by Crossfield off of Fox Mill Road….

I feel like this would cause weird boundary issues, similar to Woodson and Fairfax with their proximity and weird boundaries.

Ellanor Lawrence is literally 3 minutes from Chantilly HS down Poplar Tree - and with the newish overpass, probably only 4 minutes from Westfield. They’re also building an environmental center and there is the historic property and ruins - not to mention whatever agreements about keeping the land as parkland the county signed when the land was donated. At least the Bull Run property is 10 minutes from the closest HSs!

+1 not a good location and probably not acceptable to the county --it is a forest with trails and maybe a wetlands area. Plus, like PP said it is really, really close to both Westfield and Chantilly High. Seems to me they need the school on Centreville side of 29. But, Bull Run is at the far reaches of Fairfax County and all students would be coming from one direction in and out.

Centreville is getting expanded to 3000, Chantilly is near 3000 with no expansion, and Westfield may have enrollment over 3000 again with growth near new Silver Line stations.

Then pp's suggestion of locating the school at Ellanor Lawrence park near all three of those schools makes logical sense. There is no perfect location (except maybe the land given away to the Saudis---can the county get that back through eminent domain?)
