Masks optional by spring break

Some parents will be excited and some will be nervous. That’s okay. It’s to move forward.

Dear god I hope so. Remember people, it’s optional. If you aren’t ready that’s fine. Have a conversation with your kid explaining your reasons for requiring them to mask.

Nobody is banning masks. We want them to be optional.

You can home school. No one wants Covid from your brats.

You all have a choice. Accept that things happen, and plan reasonable and measured actions, or you can bicker and fight back-and-forth endlessly as a political issue.

I was in England when a bombing happened nearby the hotel I was staying. The BBC newscaster just stated matter-of-factly that a bomb detonated in a trash canister and there were no casualties. End of story - next page. Only then did I understand what "keep a stiff upper lip" meant.

When covid hits a certain trigger, the school should take measures. When the next trigger is passed, the school should take another measure - and so on. When the surge subsides, end of story - move on. If parents are okay with virtual or temporary virtual, have a plan to keep them virtual. If parents need their kids in-person, have a plan to keep them in-person. Do your jobs as professional educators responsible to keep the children safe and healthy. Accept it - move on.

Masks, vaccinations, covid treatments, social distancing, temporary virtual, are all part of that solution. The number of hospital beds filled, number of deaths, effect on children - should all be factors. Don't look only at MoCo - look ahead at where MoCo will be if you do nothing.

I hope there is never another spike. I hope that covid is over. But we should still plan - even if it's a plan that collects dust - so that if this ever happens again down the road, people know what to do.

Or, we can just keep blogging over and over again on DCUMS?

MCPS tried defining specific metrics, but those metrics would have put the entire school system into virtual, so they reversed course a couple days later, stopped sharing certain data publicly, and no longer share specific metrics. We’d all appreciate knowing the specifics of a well defined plan for moving forward, but since they won’t share the specifics and don’t have to stick to the plan anyway, this kind of uncertainty, distrust and bickering will continue.

I think when metrics change, parents can make this decision. No covid mitigation mandates should be coming from the school ever again.

Nope. YOU can homeschool. Or, you can mask your kid for eternity.

But leave the rest of our kids alone and away from your neurotic tendencies.

Agreed. Can we start with the ridiculous and wholly unnecessary vaccine mandates for athletes?

Why are our tax dollars being spent on extracurricular sports again?

Not only against masks but also an anti-vaxxer. You are a keeper!

No. They need to keep the mask mandate thru at least the end of the year

Take that up with the BOE. Testify at a meeting as to why you want to eliminate school sports. Good luck! I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

The end of 2022? That’s insane. Why do you feel such an unreasonable need to control other people. Mask your kid. Get her vaccinated if you want.

Don’t worry about what the rest of us wear or don’t wear on our faces.

We’re not doing this during this school year. Monica is selling hopium and y’all are buying.

Can I guess?

You're angry because you were picked on by the football team as a child and this is your way of channelling pent up frustration from that embarrassing locker room incident?

Why? What is the scientific justification for that?

What do you think?

Yes!! Push for it! We need parents out in front of this like that lady in the video Merianne Jensen talking to a VA school
Board (was it Fairfax county??)!!!! And not nutcases like the guy who ran against the school redistricting but real caring normal MCPS parents who care for teachers, care for the schools and. Are for the students and can present hard fact data that masking does minimal good and in fact HARMS the kids!!!!

But the Truth is that the psychos at MCPS are more focused on still trying to close the schools and go virtual at the drop of a hat and considering any changes to the draconian mask policies at all. I very much fear that this is going to end in court!!!!
